The plan wasn't exactly the best, but hey. It was something.

Jake was going to let them go, and keep John distracted long enough for the Striders to escaped.

Yeah, didn't really work out well. As soon as they had tried to escape they had immediately got caught. They didn't even know how he found out so quickly. But he somehow did.

Jake felt awful about it. He had thought his plan would've worked, but he completely forgot about John's guards! He was definitely serious about keeping them there.

He didn't know why John wanted them there in the first place. Every time he has asked, John would just say no reason and walk away.

He felt like he had known why, but he just couldn't realize why. It wasn't until he had really sat there and thought about it. John was the first one to know about the Striders being demons. He also knew that they were pretty damn powerful.

"He's just using them," he mumbled quietly. "Brainwashing..! Something..! He's just using them for their power...!"

It was time.

Karkat had Aradia find out where John kept them. She had some power where she could talk to the dead, which was extremely helpful in this situation.

So here they were.

Walking.

Karkat didn't want to bring them alone. He really didn't. But he couldn't do this alone. He wasn't strong at all. He didn't have any special powers. He was just a failure, honestly.

Kankri could tell his brother was doubting himself. Was he going to give him one of his lectures? Normally, yes. But not now. Now he needed to help his brother. He had been going through a lot, and he needed to be there to support him.

As they walked, Kankri walked over to the younger Vantas, and awkwardly stood next to him. It took them a few minutes to actually speak.

"So," Kankri said, breaking the awkward silence between the two. "Are you doing okay?" He asked. He was acting serious, but you could still tell that he was concerned for his brother. Karkat simply responded with a nod, not even turning to look at his older brother. What was he going to say? He couldn't tell Kankri that he was blaming himself for everything that happened. In return, Kankri let out a sigh. "You can tell me anything, you know?"

"Kankri, I understand. You're worried. Just like every guardian would be, but trust me, I'm fine. Just a bit stressed out because the dude I like is currently being held captive, and honestly at this fucking point I'm not sure if he's alive or not. So does that answer your question?"

"So you're blaming yourself for this?" Shit. Not what Karkat wanted him to know. The younger Vantas turned his head away from his brother. "Karkat, don't ignore m-"

"Yes, I am. I'm blaming myself for everything. For dad. For Terezi. For Dave. Everything," he sighed sadly. "I- I need help Kankri. It's just been getting worse. Please help me," he mumbled quietly.

"Of course I'll help you. But first, we need to save Dave."
