I jerked awoke instantly, when Andrew regained consciousness for the first time in three days after he had gone into unconsciousness. As I sat on the bed beside Andrew's bed, tears of joy filled my eyes. The first word that was coming from Andrew's lips was my name.
"Farah..." He moaned out and twisted in bed, trying to open his eyes. "Please, stay with me. I can't bear to lose you. Not now, not ever..."
Tears rolled down my cheek and I took in a sharp breath to steady the rapid beat in my chest. Andrew was still twisting and frowning deeply like he was in pain. Tears were now staining his lashes and he was now crying out.
"Farah, please don't go. Stay with me." Andrew shouted, his eyes still closed.
"Andrew." I whisper through my tears, holding both his hands and pressing it to my chest. "Andrew, I'm here. Please Andrew, open your eyes. Look at me, please." I broke down. Andrew still continued twisting, his breath coming out in rags.
Suddenly, he pulled his right hand from my grasp and outstretched it like he was trying to reach out to me.
"Farah, wait. No, wait..." Tears were now rolling from his eyes onto the pillow.
"Andrew!" I gasped and reached out to stroke his cheek. "Listen to me. I'm here with you I won't leave you again, Andrew. I promise..." Nothing changed. I clutched his face tightly and bent forward, whispering against his lips before placing my lips over his. "I love you, Andrew."
Instantly, he went still, making me pull up to stare down at him. I was afraid at first, but the slow rise and fall of his chest gave me assurance that he was still alive and I found myself releasing a shuddering breath. His long black eye lashes still fanned over his hard but pale skin and I yearned to see his emerald eyes again.
I reached out with shaky hands and smooth a strand of hair from his cheek. His lips curled into a bright smile and his eyes fluttered then opened and gazed at me.
"You came back for me." He whispered. I only stood and gaped at him, my eyes going wide. Was I dreaming? Was Andrew really back and had he really said the words I just heard? "Thank you..."
My face fell and I couldn't control the hot tears that were consuming me. I closed my eyes tightly and wept bitterly. I wasn't sure if it was tears of joy or tears of relief. I just couldn't stop myself from letting the tears roll down. I had lost Andrew twice, yet he had fought death the second time and here he was, gazing at me with pure love and happiness in those emerald eyes.
"Farah..."
"Oh, Andrew." I cried and pushed myself into his awaiting arms where I melted against him. He held me tightly against him and ran his fingers through my hair. I released my tears and let it roll onto his chest. We laid that way for minutes until my tears subsided. I took in an unsteady breath before lifting myself to stare at him again. His emerald eyes were half closed, but he opened them slowly and smiled up at me again.
"Are you okay now?" He asked. I nodded, feeling stupid for him asking me that question instead of the opposite. I bent forward and traced my finger along his cheek. His smile broadened in return.
"You are back." I whispered, still not believing it. Andrew had been shot in his stomach and on his shoulder and he had come back for those few minutes just to rescue me from Uncle Richard before going unconscious again. "Andrew, why?" I swallowed and continued. "Why did you have to come back on that day after I had left you?" I asked, looking down. The reason he had come was because he thought it was his responsibility to save me as the mother of his child or maybe because he still feels something for me.
"You called me, Farah." My head snapped up at him. "When I looked at the caller I.D, I just couldn't think. I found myself picking it on the first ring like an invisible power was controlling me and I found myself calling your name, then the loud scream that followed made me lose my senses. Fear shook my entire body and I clutched the phone tightly against my ear as I listened more closely. Then I listened to your conversation with Richard and realized that he had been released from the psychiatric hospital.
