*HONK*

"Fuck!" Max hollered, turning his head back to the road. The cars whisked away from the long lines, sputtering carbon dioxide. We drove almost halfway towards my complex, listening to a hushed radio as it sang out overplayed songs.

"Left, left! Go left!" I yelped, pushing Max's arm. He was about to miss the turn that led into the apartment complex, which was kind of hard to ignore. The entrance had a big, sign of glass and stone that read, 'Sentosa' in a sleek font. "Max you missed it! That was the turn!"

"You should have fucking told me!" He said, raising his shoulders and eyebrows simultaneously.

I gave a tsk. "Make a U-turn over here." I mumbled, looking out the window. He drove past once again, and acted innocently confused. "I told you to go that way!" I yelled.

"It's not my fault! You just need to give better directions next time."

"Cmon, you obviously heard what I was saying, you're just choosing to do the opposite."

"Am not!"

"Are two!"

We both sat in silence, Max driving, me slumped back in the passengers seat. He continued on the road, his eyes set forward. I'd blow a hair out of my face every now and then, comfortably shifting my position in the cushiony seat. We both sat in the car for about an hour before he had pulled into an empty parking lot.

"Are we... lost?" I unbuckle, looking out the window.

"Nope." Max unbuckled, getting out of the car. He stretched his arms.

"Where are we?" I asked, now out of the car. I walked towards a sign with brochures inside of a plastic bin.  It was labeled, 'Nature trail' and under it was, 'Keep an eye out for these plants and creatures!'. "You drove all the way out here, to bring me to a nature hike?" I scoff, reading the map.

"Well it wasn't intentional."

"Right, not intentional? No one just drives for miles and ends up at a nature walk." I turned, facing Max.

"Well I did." Max answered. I groaned, running a hand through my hair. We both agreed that while we were here, we might as well travel across the gravelly walkway.

Our feet skidded across rocks and fine dirt as we strolled the path. The small breezes gracefully tickled our faces as it followed us. The grass mingled with the brighter hue of the mosses and the dullness of the earth. The trees lie lower to the ground than those in the dense woodlands further off. They hunker down to give a lower profile to the wind, as pointless as it is. Here there are real flowers with petals that look painted by a carnival queen. Nothing was too bright, nothing was big or bold. The sunrays fall as a blanket of white upon the greenery. In their glow the leaves of spring lie papery and delicate, drinking in the energy the trees crave.

We didn't say much, but we could read eachother's thoughts. It was around 5, we had been walking for hours. My legs numbed, and my feet tingled. We had just stopped at a hill, and decided to take a rest before walking back. My hands lay behind my head, my body stretched upon the green grass. Max, identically positioned, was by my right side. We pointed out oddly-shaped clouds, giggling at their appearances. Soon enough, it was sunset. I watched with an unwavering gaze, as a fiery red orb of light dipped beneath the horizon, and threads of light lingered in the sky, mingling with the thin rolling clouds, dyeing the skies orange, and ruby-red. My eyes fixated themselves on the melting pot of colors in the sky.

"It's about to get dark out." Max grunted, picking himself up off the hard ground.

I nod, easing myself up. Soon, we continued back the way we came, and found the car. By the time we got to the vehicle, the enormous sky was darkened to obsidian, and silvery stars winked. We flopped into our seats, satisfyingly exhausted.

"That wasn't too bad now was it?" Max smirks, starting the car.

I shrugged, and buckled. The soles of my feet throbbed, almost giving off a heartbeat of their own.

"Let's find somewhere to eat before I drop you off." Max says, observing me through the lit up rearview mirror.

I nodded, "Please do. I'm starving."

He agreed, and drove off back into the city. Unlike last time, we were able to glide through the streets. He parked the car in a parking space, and we jumped out, walking into a typical McDonalds. We ordered, the smell of oily chemicals floating above our noses. Almost instantly, our food was ready. Max held the platter and led me to a booth. My mouth watered and I licked my dry lips before unwrapping and biting a chunk out of the burger. At this point, I didn't care what I looked like eating in front of men.

Max stared with wide eyes, a big smile as he drank out of a soda cup. "Someone's a bit hungry eh?"

I roll my eyes, washing the food down with a mouthful of carbonated cola. "Always." I chuckled, eating another fry. Max's food had already been gone by the time I finished. We crumpled up the wax papers, the papers giving loud crinkles as they took new form. The trash slid into a grimy, tan trashcan and the red tray had been layed on top. We left the restaurant in sync, our lips dusted with salt and our fingers smelling of meat. For the hundredth time, we climbed into the car, buckling up and driving away. This time, Max correctly finds the way to the complex. He stops in a parking space and I unbuckle.

"Thanks."

"No biggie," Max leaned over, "(Y/N)?"

"Hm?"

"I've really enjoyed hanging out with you" He paused, "and I was wondering if you wanted to go out tomorrow. Like on an actual date." He winced, scanning my face.

I bit the inside of my cheek, staring at Max in silence for a few moments. We've clicked really easily over these few days and I feel pretty confident that we get along well. I just didn't know what to say because I didn't want to ruin a potential friendship. The more I thought about it, the two of us blindly went out on a date already. I come to the conclusion that I should give it a shot, to see how it goes. "..Yeah, okay. What time?"

"Seven."

"Alright, I'll see you then."
