Marco's POV

The week practically flew by. At first, some of our classmates teased Star and I because of our appearances, but our true friends stuck up for us. Except for Janna, but Janna's well... Janna.

Everyday, my inner panic grew. It was to a point where every time I saw Star, I'd ask how Glossaryk's search for a way to undo this was going, which wasnt going anywhere unfortunately! Somehow though, when I talked to Star, she didn't seem as panicked as I was.

"You do realize that if Glossaryk doesn't have a solution for us by midnight that we're gonna be stuck like this FOREVER, right?" I ask her as we head to school.
"I know, I know! You've been telling me this every time you see me!" She replies.
"FOREVER Star! I can't be a woman forever! I've been just barely managing this week!" I tell her.
"I KNOW!" Star snaps, "I get it Marco! Do you think I like being boy? And Glossaryk is doing everything he can! I'm in the same boat as you in case you haven't noticed so stop putting this all on me!"
"I-I'm sorry," I say, not having realized how pressured she must feel. Maybe that's why she seems so calm... There have been some studies on people who just completely shut down when they become stressed enough...

The two of us get to school and attend class as usual, but Star doesn't talk to me. She's off in her own world again, looking nervous now. When the last bell rings, she rushes out of the class quicker than the speed of light. I go to my locker and grab my things.

"Need a ride?" Jackie asks, tossing me a helmet. I put it on and hop onto her skateboard.
"Thanks," I tell her, "and not just for the ride. You helped me out a lot this week with my, erm, transition..."
"Don't sweat it," she says as we ride off. The breeze swishes around my longhair as we head towards my place. "How'd you like it being a girl anyway?"
"It's not really my thing," I tell her and we both laugh a little. "I really hope I won't be stuck like this permanently..."
"Even if you do, you make a pretty good looking chick," Jackie says, making me blush for some reason. "But I will admit that I like you a little better as Marco than Marci."
Now I'm blushing red as a tomato, meanwhile Jackie just laughs at me. She then stops abruptly and I jump off her skateboard and hand her the extra helmet back.
"Thanks!"

I head inside and go up to find Star. Her voice and Glossaryk's emirate from her room. Glossaryk must've found a solution! As I go towards Star's room, I realize that her and Glossaryk are arguing. I'm about to knock when I hear what they're talking about.

"Star you have no choice now, you have to go through with it!"
"No Glossaryk, I just can't! Doing that will cause more problems than it will solve!"
"Are you fine with remaining a boy forever then? And Marco remaining a girl?"
"No...its just– Argh! I can't do this!"
"You have to tell him too Star, it's unfair if you decide this on your own."
"I know, but if I tell him, then..."
"It's the only way. I'm sorry that it's the only solution I could find but–"

"Solution? What solution?" I burst into Star's room, interrupting their conversation.
"M-Marco! I–" Star starts, but Glossaryk quickly interrupts her.
"Marco,  I've found a way to turn you both back to normal," he says.
"You did? That's great! I won't have to be a girl forever then!" I say triumphantly. Star stands there, awkward and seemingly nervous.
"The truth is, I've had it since Monday afternoon, but Star insisted I look for another one because of what it entails." Glossaryk gives Star a look, who immedietaly looks away sheepishly.
"What exactly does it entail?" I ask suspiciously. If Star looks that nervous, it can't possibly be anything good. "Do we have to fight some kind of rare monster or something?"
"As cliché as it may sound, the only thing I found out that can break the spell is a true love's kiss. You both must kiss a person you truly love romantically." Glossaryk explains.
"So no family members then? And no friends?" I clarify.
"Precisely," he confirms.

I walk over to Star, who's looking down at the floor silently.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Is the first thing I ask her, "Star, we're best friends!" She twitches. "Were you embarrassed because you haven't told the guy you like that you like him?"
"Y-yeah," she says, smiling crookedly at me.
"Well then it's time to confess," I toss her her phone and take out mine.
"I–I don't know if I can do this..." she says, trembling ever so slightly.
"Don't worry," I tell her, placing my hand in her shoulder, "I'm sure that if you tell him your true feelings, Oskar will accept them." Star frowns, as if that wasn't what she wanted to hear. "W-well, I'm gonna call Jackie then..." I say and quickly leave the room.

I dial Jackie's number, my heartbeat quicking at each ring. When she finally picks up, I explain the situation as best as I can. She tells me that she'll be coming around nine, so I head back into Star's room.

"Did you call him?" I ask her.
"Y-Yeah, he'll be coming by at nine-ish," she replies looking insincere. She looks like shes's hiding something, but I decided not to pester her about it.
"Same goes for Jackie," I tell her and for the few minutes following, we stand there in awkward silence. "Until then, do you wanna watch a movie and grab some pizza or something?"
"Sure," she says reluctantly.

Star keeps her distance as we head to the pizza place. When I look at her, she seems down again and I can't seem to figure out why. I order our favorite pizza and while we're waiting, I decide to ask her.

"Cheer up Star! You're gonna get the chance to kiss your crush tonight! Aren't you happy?" I ask her, she smiles awkwardly.
"I guess," she starts, "but..."
"But...?"
"I don't know..." She says in a low voice.
"Star, you're amazing. You're brave, you're fun, you're beautiful; he's definitely gonna love you," I tell her. She blushes at my compliments.
"You r-really think that?"
"I know that," I reassure her. She smiles brightly for a moment, but just as quickly changes to a look of defeat.
"Thanks," she says quietly and stands up, "I think our order is ready."
