Chapter 10: Compete, Argue, and Compromise

Start from the beginning

"Nothing," Oliver and I said to him.

"Mom, Dad, and everyone else," hollered Sarah with her loud, thundering voice. "We're done with the game, right?" Sarah may look like an average fifth grader, but once you get to 'know' her, she pops louder than a balloon. She literally pops her mouth open, like what she's doing right now.

"I thought the game was still going on." Dad said, out of the tall tree, which was a few yards across.

"Nope," Alex abruptly said, while slamming her hands together. "Amanda and Oliver were silently talking to each other."

"We were not." Oliver and I simultaneously said shortly.

Mom and Dad exchanged glances, and Mrs. and Mr. Sanders did the same.

Mom started out, "Let's have a game of tug-a-war."

"Yeah," Dad agreed, nodding to Mom. "Then we can sort out who's the loser and winner of the fishing contest."

"Sounds great," smiled Mr. Sanders. "I'll get the rope from my camper." What camper?

Brian then came out of the bush - from the hide-and-seek tag game - and pointed to his large class c motorhome. That was weird, he just read my mind.

"Do you mind if I helped you?" I asked Mr. Sanders, offering him if I could help. I wanted to see what the inside of their camper looked like. I've never been inside of a camper, just seen the outside park. I wondered if their camper on the inside was bigger than how large the camper was on the inside.

"Not at all, you can come right in." he said, waving his hands towards the entrance of the camper.

I followed Mr. Sanders into the motorhome. I was amazed by how spacious the camper was on the inside than on the outside. Even though on the outside it looked big - I have to admit it - it is big and roomy. But I shouldn't be surprise of this, because the Sanders are rich, totally rich.

"Did you buy this?" I asked, without thinking.

"Yup, we did." he said, searching for the rope through the cabinets.

The wonder of the camper on the inside was too much to describe. If I had to describe the picture in one word it would be brown. You know why? It's because everything in here is brown. They have brown chairs, tables, cabinets, couches, windows, and almost everything else that you name it.

"Are you done, Amanda?" he asked, walking towards me.

I shook my head, and said, "Sorry, and yes, I'm done."

"It's alright." he chuckled.

We went out of the camper and got ready for the game.

"So, should we divide as Girls vs. Boys?" asked Mrs. Sanders.

Everyone abruptly shouted, "No."

"How about Skylars v.s. Sanders?" James suggested.

"No," Alex said sharply, "Sanders vs. Skylars."

"Big deal, what's the difference?" I asked, crossing my arms.

"Sanders are first named, that's the difference." she said, as she walked towards me taking large steps.

"Whatever, let's just start the game." I said. We grouped ourselves to our own family names, Sanders on the right side of the rope and Skylars on the left side of the rope.

"Let me get this straight," Katie said casually, "the family who wins this rope contest also wins the fishing contest, right?"

Everyone simultaneously said, "Yes!"
