Dear Future Fraction Master,
It is important to remember how to do problems like these in the future because of the many jobs that you might be interested in. For example in my future I hope to be an astronomer at the very most and at the very least I wish to be able to work alongside my mother or father at 7-11 or Walmart. With any of these jobs there will come a time when fraction skills are needed like when I would go to measure the distances between stars or galaxies or in other cases with clearance sales or just something simple like refilling a Slurpee machine. Even though these tasks are usually done with decimals there might come an unexpected time when there is a fraction involved and you'd need to solve the problem fast. If you remember these steps well enough you would be able to solve it with a minute or two to spare or even better you could be able to do these in your head! Still sometimes it's better to write it down so you are able to go back and correct your mistakes.
In any other future where there is cooking, building, or even playing music there are still fractions. In cooking or baking you will need to know how much of what goes into the recipe and everything that you use to measure the ingredients will be in fractions. When you are building you'd most likely need to measure and calculate the area of an uneven surface to build a doghouse or a skateboard ramp. Music is the most wonderful thing in the world especially if you're the one playing it! Music itself combines the skills of reading and math , and it has been around for ages. When playing music you'd find at the very beginning of the piece there is a fraction like 4/4 or 6/8. That is the time signature which tells you how many beats there are per measure and how fast or what kind of notes that you would play in the entire song until and if the time was changed.
In the future there are many good and very much true reasons to remember how to solve fraction problems and for these reasons do we study fractions in math. So good luck in your future and try to master fractions as best you can!
Sincerely your friend,
Cheyenne Rowe
