The games. Killing, blood, death, sponsors. All these thoughts flow through my head. My mother, Katniss, Rory. Rory. Gosh, I was so mean to him earlier, I guess he did protect our secret. Maybe I should go apologize...
I get up and walk out of my room. I am walking to the other side of the penthouse, where Rory's bedroom is, when I see a shadow on the roof. The roofs in the Capitol are made of glass, so you can look at the stars.
I open up the door to the balcony and climb up the side of the penthouse. I see Rory sitting right in front of me, with his back turned to me. I walk over to him and sit down beside him.
"Can't sleep?" I ask.
"No, you?"
"Nope, too much going through my head about tomorrow."
"Same."
"I'm sorry for blowing up on you earlier."
"It's okay, I don't even know why I said I liked her, I don't know her, the only thing I know is that I'm probably gonna be the first one she kills..."
"Don't say that, we can team up, and win..."
"Maybe."
He sighs.
"I don't understand why the people of the Capitol think it's entertaining to watch young girls and boys fight to the death until one remains. I wonder how they would like it if that happened to them," he says.
"That would never happen."
"I know, but still, it's gross. If no one watched the games, there wouldn't be one."
"Again, never gonna happen."
"Never hurts to dream," he sighs," You ready for tomorrow?"
"Yes, scared though..."
"Don't be, I'll protect you."
He then gently kisses my lips. I feel safe when I'm with him. But, I don't want him to protect me, because I know, if he has to, he will die doing it. I have to convince him I can take care of myself.
"No, I can protect myself. I can throw knives and I'm fast and a good climber. Don't worry, take care of yourself."
I give him a kiss on the cheek to show him that I'm not trying to be rude. I get up and say,
"Good luck tomorrow."
"May the odds be ever in your favor," Rory says.
I giggle and leave. I go back to my bedroom, throw myself onto the bed and force my eyes shut.
Trying not to think of the horrible things that will happen tomorrow.
