Today I was in your room longer.

I saw the ups and downs of your heart rate on a monitor.

I was too scared to look at it before.

Today the ups and downs were different.

Today your breath was different.

You put my hand on your chest.

You smiled.

You whispered something.

"I love you Josh. But remember: everyone needs to sleep."

Your chest rose up and down one more time.

It stopped.

The line on the monitor flattened out.

A straight line.

You were gone.
