It was eight at night when I got back home. How I'd managed to spend so many hours in a dusty old shed with Mason, I had no idea. I'd enjoyed every minute, though, and pushed open my bedroom door with a dreamy smile still on my face.
The smile dropped when I saw Annabella Versace waiting, sat cross-legged on my bed. That either meant that there was good news or there was bad news; there was no in between.
I flipped the light switch, illuminating my room and making Annabella a slight bit easier to make out. Her green eyes held an expression that I wasn't quite familiar with on her—excitement.
"Um...hey," I said slowly, taking a seat on my pillowy mattress and staring down at her tentatively. "What's up?"
Annabella didn't look at me. She kept her gaze trained straight ahead, but I saw her red lips turn upwards in an almost nostalgiac smile. What she had to feel nostalgia over, I didn't know. "Fun party last night, huh?"
"Fuck," I swore under my breath. "You were there? How did you—"
"All I had to do was walk to party city, buy myself a sexy police officer costume, and try not to get attacked by creeps on the way to that Blake guy's house," she said with a shrug. "The dude let me in without a question."
Annabella's eyes were still trained on my white wall, and a smile was still present on her lips. "Oh god, did you see—"
"Yes," she said without needing me to finish. "Not the way you're thinking I did, though."
That could mean so many different things. Confused, I felt my dark eyebrows furrow of their own accord as I said, "Well then how—"
Annabella put up an index finger, interrupting me for the second time. I grudgingly shut my mouth. "Not so fast," she said, waving her finger reproachingly. "I promise I'll get to your werewolf boyfriend later. Right now," she finally turned to look at me; her eyes were sparkling with an elation I hadn't seen in them in the sixteen years I'd known her. "We're talking about me."
"Alright then," I interlocked my hands behind my head and leaned back into my soft pillows, relaxed now that I was sure she brought good news. "What happened, party animal?"
"I slept with someone," Annabella said bluntly. My eyes shot wide open and I sat up instantly.
"No fucking way," I breathed. "With a girl?"
Annabella nodded excitedly, squealing in a way I didn't think she could and throwing her arms around my neck in a hug that caught me entirely by surprise. "It's all thanks to you, too," she said unto my shoulder. "You're the reason I had enough confidence in my sexuality to do it in the first place," she broke the hug and held me by the shoulders at arm's length. The surprise hadn't yet left my expression. "God, I could kiss you!" She said, then planted a big one on my cheek. "It was the best night of my life, Kieran!"
"Woah, woah, woah," I said, blinking and still trying to register the fact that Annabella Versace, who hardly left home, had gotten laid before I did. "So let me get this straight—or gay, or whatever. You went to Blake's Halloween party and had a one-night-stand with a girl. Am I missing anything?"
"Yes!" Annabella said. "Well, no, not technically. But it wasn't a one-night-stand, Kieran! Okay, sure, I was drunk off my ass and only half remember it, but I remember enough! I think."
