He greeted her with a small smile while she felt a sudden bevy of butterflies float in her stomach, making it extremely hard for her to stand straight.
"Hi!"
She replied in a voice that was barely audible.
She thought she would lose her balance any minute now as she saw his smile deepen and felt that this really was a dream and can't be true. But her inference was proved wrong when she heard him say,
"You are Sapna, right? Sapna Tomar?"
He knew her name?
When? How? How can he?
She felt goose bumps hearing her name from his mouth. It felt like something sosurreal. Too good to be true.
Seeing him still wait for an answer, she steadied herself from her feeble demeanor and said,
"Yeah,how.. how do you know?"
To that he gave her an "Oh! Come on!" look as he replied, "Why wouldn't I? You are the girl who kicked ass in the debate round and made our team lose, remember?"
"And oh! Forgot to mention, you were also the previous CR and department topper in Psychology?"
She smiled and nodded as he flirtatiously said that.
She felt her feet were already levitating from the ground hearing those words from his mouth.
He looked even more attractive when he smiled like that.
But then she remembered what had conspired between him and Khushi Gupta, and felt her heart die a little death once again. Not letting the obvious disappointment show on her face, she said,
"And you are Arnav Singh Raizada. Science Department topper, Basketball Team Captain, Head of the Students' Board, and.. the boyfriend of Khushi Gupta."
She deliberately paused for a second to state the last words.
But to her utter surprise, she saw his face fall at the mention of Khushi Gupta's name.
"Well, you can strike that off! The last designation of mine you just mentioned!"
He averred blatantly.
"But why?" She immediately asked him, her brows still held in confusion.
"Because we broke up! As simple as that!"
.
WHAT?
No way!
But.. Really?
.
A zillion thoughts were swooshing in her head right now.
She had never felt so overwhelmed hearing words like these. Break-ups, patch-ups kept happening with everyone, around everyone, but this, this right here, right now was something that had impacted her boundlessly.
She felt a sudden blanket of happiness envelop her as her mind processed the words and registered that Khushi Gupta and Arnav Singh Raizada were over. And she was never this happy before.
But she can't let it show.
Her conscience reminded her and soon she made a concerned face and asked, "But why?"
At that she saw him get up from his chair, his hands tucked inside his jeans' pockets and he said with a frustrated tone, "She's NOT my type! She's too BOSSY! I can't take anyone telling me what to, what not to do! I hate control freaks!"
