Luke's POV
Brynn and I still weren't really talking and we shared a couple of classes. I took my seat in Maths and noticed that our teacher wasn't in the classroom yet so I rested my head on the desk. I had a shift last night and it meant that I didn't get home until one thirty.
I saw the teacher come in so I lifted me head u and rubbed sleep out of my eyes. I could deal with little sleep but I wasn't quite used to it again yet. The last place that I worked I only worked until ten most nights so I forgotten what it was like.
It took a minute for Mr King to get set up so the class continued to talk.
"You look tired," Brynn noted.
"Yeah, I didn't get much sleep last night," I said.
"Too busy fucking some girl?" she sneered.
I looked at her for a second and didn't say anything. I don't know why she got the idea that I would have been with a girl, let alone that I was having sex with her. I've been here for like a week but I'm guessing that she has a perception of what a jock is like and now I'm one.
I didn't say anything else to her because I wasn't going to listen to her assume what I was like. I wasn't going to deal with that. Mr King started the class so I didn't have to deal with Brynn. We didn't talk anymore and I wasn't complaining.
Brynn didn't say anything else to me during the lesson and I was one of the first people to leave the classroom. I headed to my other morning classes before joining the rest of the hockey team at their table in the cafeteria.
I took my usual seat next to Justin and he offered me a smile. So far he was definitely the nicest to me. I let him talk to me about something that happened in one of his classes as I sat there and ate.
"How is Pittsburgh treating you so far?" Justin asked.
"I haven't had a chance to get out yet," I said.
He didn't really get a chance to say anything because a loud conversation started up about the Penguins and the NHL. It was a conversation that I could join in. Since I moved around a lot I didn't really follow one team, instead just following the game but the guys didn't like that.
"You live in Pittsburgh now, you can't not like Penguins," Dan protested.
"I never said I don't like them," I protested.
"With your last name you have to like Sid, don't you?" someone else asked.
"For the last fucking time we aren't related," I snapped.
No one said anything for a second but then the conversation started back up again. I didn't talk that much more and I was happy to let the conversation go on around me. Justin stopped to talk to me after the bell rang.
"You want to do something tonight?" Justin asked.
"I've got hockey tonight. So maybe another day," I said.
He nodded and we both realised that we had to get to class.
"You know that you kind of look like him," he added.
I glared at him because I knew who he was talking about. I had been told quite a few times that I looked like Crosby with dark hair and eyes and a similar face shape. He got a laugh out of it until I slapped the back of his head.
I just rolled my eyes at him and headed to my own class because I had better things to be doing than be teased by Justin. I didn't see much of the hockey team for the rest of the day or Brynn. I had meant to ask Justin what her problem with the hockey team was but I forgot.
We didn't have training after school so I headed straight home to our empty apartment. I sat down at the table and grabbed my Maths homework out to start on. I knew that I didn't have long before I was expected down at the rink so I started to work quickly.
None of my homework was that hard or difficult so I was finished before I was needed at the rink. I didn't have anything better to do and Mom wasn't home so I just headed down. I walked into the rink to find a Peewee team out on the ice and the Coach looked very stressed.
I pulled my skates on and skated over to him.
"Do you want any help?" I asked.
"Who are you?" he asked.
"I'm Luke Crosby, I just moved. You look a little stressed," I said.
"Yeah, I'll take that offer up. I'm Coach David," he started and then started telling me about what he was doing.
He called all the kids together and introduced me. They all waved at me and I smiled at them. I didn't know their names but they seemed be good kids and they worked well but Coach David needed help.
I had a lot of fun out with the kids and I enjoyed being out on the ice with them. They finished off with a game and I refereed the game for a bit of fun. Coach David got me to wait around as he talked to a couple of parents as the kids left.
"Would you be able to keep helping me? The kids seemed to really like you and I need help," he said.
I happily agreed to help because I loved working with the kids and it was a lot of fun. It also gave me another reason to be out on the ice. He gave me his number and the schedule before heading off the ice.
I didn't get off the ice because I didn't have long before I was needed for the game anyway. I just pulled my pads on and started to work. I was hitting puck into the net when someone else joined me on the ice and I looked up to see Jamie.
"How long have you been here?" he asked.
I just shrugged as more of the team poured onto the ice as well as the team that we were playing. We started warming up together and I was talking to a couple of the other forwards as we worked. I didn't really know any of them yet because I had only been to the one practice.
The game started not long later and it was tough. I was the smallest player on the ice and the other team were pushing me around.
"I think that the junior leagues are another night," someone chirped at me.
I just rolled my eyes at that and skated away. At that point I already had a goal and an assist so I knew that I was playing fine. The game ended with us having a 4-1 win so the locker room was loud and happy.
I stripped my pads off and listened to the rest of the guys plan for going out.
"Crosby, do you want to come out with us?" Jamie asked.
"I'm fine," I said.
"How old are you anyway?" Alex asked.
"I'm 16."
The guys all started chirping me for still being at high school. I knew that a few of them were thinking what so many of my rec teammates and opponents have thought. How is a 15 or 16 year old playing with adults?
I shoved all my stuff into my bag and said goodbye to the guys and headed out. As I walked as I started to add new things to my phone calendar. I added the Peewee trainings and games as well as finishing adding the rec schedule.
With adding coaching the Peewee kids I was going to be very busy but I wasn't going to turn it down. The kids were so cool to coach and I wasn't going to not take up the job because they might not be able to keep playing and everyone that wants to play hockey should be able to.
I was just going to have to deal with the business of my schedule. I didn't really mind because I love being out on the ice.
