A new century had come.

But she never kept track. Ambrose had finally settled with the concept of immortality, and had stopped counting the days a few years after Mathilda. Mathilda! It had been such a joy for her to be living and breathing again, and as every day ebbed away, Ambrose longer for the next time she would be mortal again.

Unfortunately for her – and rather fortunately for them – there was a serene balance throughout the entire wizarding community. Although Muggles were always facing troubles, Nicholas always reassured her that someone was out there, taking care of them.

She had always pestered him with questions – her late parents had been passive followers of the Roman Catholic Church, and she knew they believed in a God. However, Nicholas refused to answer, always evading her questions and acting mysterious.

But Ambrose, being the persuasive and occasionally annoying person she was, had wheedled out some information. She knew that Nicholas had talked to The Person (the name she had creatively decided on) only once, and that he had been told to watch over the magical beings.

But she didn't know anything else – and Nicholas was rather keen to keep it that way.

"My Time is nearly here," Amatheia Venus murmured, looking tired. The two had decided to pay her a visit. "My generation has come and gone... I am too old to continue..." She held out her beautiful, slender arm and Ambrose took it gently. Nicholas stayed standing, looking out to the horizon. Ambrose knew Sirens lived much longer than witches or wizards, and yet Amatheia had even lived past her age expectancy.

"Not yet," Nicholas said, sounding distanced. "But soon." Ambrose's skipped a beat when he said this – she had grown close to Amatheia, and didn't want to see her friend go.

However, Amatheia looked invigorated when Nicholas told her this – as if she was ready for the moment. Ambrose felt a look pass between the two, and a sense of dread filled her body.

This would be the last time she would see Amatheia.

And that was a pitfall of her immortality – she had already witnessed Hedda's death, and had seen Merlin's, too. She had watched the great Helga Hufflepuff and Godric Gryffindor fall, and eventually Salazar Slytherin. It was too much for her sometimes.

The heartbreak was a burden.

But it was also the painful truth.

Amatheia noticed Ambrose's sorrow almost immediately, and waved at Nicholas to go away. He disappeared in a heartbeat, leaving the two alone.

"Look at you, my daughter..." Amatheia clicked her tongue sadly, wiping away Ambrose's tears. "You knew it was bound to happen. It's always just a manner of when."

"Can't – Can't y-you stay longer?" Ambrose replied, furiously wiping her tears away.

"Ah, Rosie... we cannot choose when we are born, or when we die. But we can live our lives as fully as possible. And that's what I've done. I've fulfilled my own destiny – and now I have to leave," She kissed Ambrose on the cheek. "What you're doing is beautiful, Rosie. You're helping us. Helping them. The times ahead are going to be hard for you, but you will surmount it. You will always surmount it."

"Good-bye." Ambrose whispered.

"Until we meet again." She answered, before disappearing into the depths of the scintillating sea.

"She still has Time." Nicholas started.

"Then why did we have to part now? Couldn't we have visited her later?" Ambrose spoke out into the ocean, well aware of Nicholas' presence behind her.
