When he woke up, he was sitting on a rock. A cold rock. Slowly, he felt around his surroundings, his hand brushing against the frozen slab. Abruptly, his hand landed on another. His eyes woke up at once and looked towards the item that was not a wall. It was the boy's arm. Tyler quickly pulled it back, blushing.
They sat there, listening to their breath. Listening to them live.
"Why did you catch me?" Tyler spoke out, his voice echoing from the walls of the cave they were sitting in.
"I...." His voice was higher then Tyler predicted it to be. "I couldn't just let you die."
"But, it was my choice," Tyler argued. "You could have died."
"Yeah, I know." Tyler looked over at the figure. He was playing with his fingers, not looking up. "But I didn't." He finished as he looked back at Tyler.
Tyler's eyes drifted over to the opening. It was raining. It was dark. He heard thunder.
"What time is it?!" Tyler quickly said. His family was probably freaking out.
"I don't know, but I'm guessing around five." He answered. "It's okay. We can just tell your family you had a project at school when we go home."
By we, did that mean they were walking home together? Tyler felt cared for. He felt his hands start to sweat. He was nervous still.
"I'm Joshua, by the way." The boy spoke out. "Joshua Dun. But, you can just call me Josh."
Tyler looked at him.
"Tyler Joseph." He smiled at him, and Josh looked over.
"Cool." He mumbled and smiled back.
The silence turned awkward.
"Thank you." Tyler finally added. "So much. I-I don't know what I was doing."
"It's fine, most of us have been there," Josh replied.
Wait, what, Tyler thought. Does that mean...
"Like, most of us...um," He started to fumble with words. "Nevermind. It's fine. You're alive. Just please don't do that again."
Tyler nodded.
"I'll stay alive for you." He joked a bit.
"Please do. I can't go through that again." Josh laughed back. "Please friend, stay alive for me."
Josh's voice cracked on "friend", which made it sound like "fren."
"I mean, f-friend..." Josh corrected himself.
"It's okay. Fren is cute." Tyler smiled. "Like, go up to someone and be like, oh, hey fren. We're frens,"
Tyler and Josh laughed a bit until Tyler realized that he just called Josh a friend.
"I-I mean, we aren't friends..." Tyler amended, but Josh cut him off.
"I just saved your damn life. I'm pretty sure we're frens." Josh laughed.
They just laughed and chatted about random things until they storm cleared.
Slowly they walked out of the cave, and up the hill.
"I live down that street," Tyler pointed to the sign that said the name of his street.
"Hey, me too." Josh laughed as they both passed the sign.
"How will I explain why I am soaking wet?" Tyler asked Josh.
"Oh yeah..." He looked down at his clothes. "I know we've known each other for less than an hour but you could borrow mine. My family is out. I think."
