"Gimme the wallet you little punk!" I shouted shaking the kid around.

"Okay! Okay calm down!" he grunted digging in his pockets, I heard my husbands uneven footsteps come up behind me. The kid handed me the wallet and shrugged me off.

"I want the money back too" I added looking at the nearly empty wallet. He grunted again and handed me a ball of cash. That wasn't it, I knew it wasn't.

I kept my hand out, the kid handed me another ball and another ball. I kept my hand out. "What? That's all, if I give you anymore I'd be paying you for letting me steal from you!"

"You should pay me! You little punk-"

"Why did you take the money?" Casp interrupted me.

"Look at me mister" the kid said annoyed. So I looked. He was a street kid. He's skinny and dirty. My heart went out to him, he was probably going to get dinner with this money. By the looks of it it'd be his first dinner in a small forever.

"Sorry kid, here" I said handing him two balls of money. His eyes started to shine.

"Thanks!" he beamed at me and grabbed my hand shaking it excitedly.

"You promise you'll use it for food?" I asked raising an eyebrow at him.

"Definitely! I'm going to get one of those huge packets of veggies and a five litre water so that I'll have food for a long- it's not your business, sorry. Thanks again mister."

He was about to walk away when- "do you have a place to stay tonight?"

Both the boy and I looked at my husband in awe. "I think so" he stuttered.

"No family to stay with?" I asked. The kid shook his head. "Prison or six feet under" he mumbled.

"Are you going to a home? Did you book a place?" Casp asked quickly.

"Well no but if that doesn't pull through I know a real nice place over on bloom street. It's under the bridge and no wind gets there and it's all for me!" the kid started happily. He's happy about sleeping under a bridge tonight, a bridge I cross under every morning and every evening on my way to work and think nothing of.

"Would you like a real bed tonight? Maybe lunch and dinner? Maybe a real bed, breakfast, lunch and dinner for a few weeks?" Casp asked again. The kid looked scared, so was I.

"Excuse us for a moment" I told the kid and pulled my husband aside. "What the hell are you doing?" I asked shocked.

"I don't know? We can help him. Xan I can see his bones. He'll stay with us for a while and we'll take him to an adoption agency or something, get him a good home."

"We don't know this kid! He could steal from us when we sleep or take Jaime or kill us-"

"Hey! How do I know you won't kill me?" the kid chirped in.

"What satisfaction would I get from killing a helpless street kid?" I asked in confusion.

"I don't know, maybe you like taking advantage of people" he shrugged with sass.

I sucked my teeth then looked at my husband. He has a kind heart. He wants to help this kid, what could this possibly lead to? Nothing. This is just us helping out a kid.

"You interested or not?" I asked gruffly.

"Well what happens to me? You guys take me home. Give me a place to stay and after a while I'm back on the streets? No thanks. I don't want to get used to fancy lifestyles."

"No, we'll make sure you're taken care of! I swear. We'll send you to school and pay for it and-" my husband was getting ahead of himself but the look of happiness on his face- it... made me realise he needed this kid more than this kid needed him.

I pulled out my business card and handed it to him, "I'm the CEO of a company, my husband here is a teacher at a private school with boarding. We can give you a great future. We can help you but only if you want it."

I pulled up a picture of our house, "This is where we live. We have an extra room open for you as long as you want it."

"Why would you guys do this for me? You part of some kind of good will project?" he asked looking hesitant.

"No, we'll do it because it feels right. You need help and we can give it to you."

"I don't need help" he scoffed.

"Oh, is that why you sway from side to side like you're going to pass out or why I can see your ribs through your worn out baggy shirt? Because you don't need help?" I asked.

"I just don't understand why okay?"

"Please consider it?" Caspiry asked "We'll be by the courthouse until 2, meet us outside there if you're interested. If not then fine."

We turned to walk away. "I don't know your names" the kid shouted after us.

"I'm Caspiry Talisker and this is my husband Xander Talisker and you are?"

"Wilan, Wilan Ike and I'll see you guys at 2."

Ten years, no bail. I almost felt bad, almost. I'm a bitch and that bitch killed my daughter. No punishment is fitting.

But I was glad, she's gone. My husband beamed at me with tears in his eyes. Happy and sad tears. It was over but we had scars that needed tending to.

"Let's get out of here" I whispered hugging him close.

He nodded. We walked out with our daughter and our parents trailing behind us. Outside waiting for us was Wilan Ike.

"You sure about this?" Wilan asked.

"Dead sure" Casp said.

I nodded in agreement. This will be good for us... right?
