🏖Beach day🏖
"So you've really never been to the beach?" Steven asked halting his steps to put his sandal that slipped of his foot back on. He hurried to catch up to the girl walking a little ways in front of him. "Nope. Never. We didn't really have much time to go to any beaches back in (h/t)." (Y/n)'s reply was only a half lie. Her family did have very little time to go to places like beaches or amusement parks,but whenever they did make time for those types of activities,she always refused to go to the beach. It wasn't because she didn't like it. She was simply terrified of the ocean.
"Well its a good thing you moved to Beach city then! Now you can visit whenever you like!" Stevens over enthusiastic offer to accompany her to her first beach visit was what made her agree to go. She had only met Steven a few weeks prior while visiting her cousin,Lars at the big doughnut. Steven was more than happy to make a new friend and she just couldn't seem to say no to his exited outburst when she had admitted that she had never been to a beach.
They didn't have to walk very far before the ocean came into view. (Y/n) could feel herself starting to panic slightly but she tried her hardest to put on a brave face,wiping her sweaty hands on her faded jean shorts. Her facade must not have been as good as she thought because Steven instantly noticed her nervousness. "Hey are you okay there (n/n)?" (Y/n) forced a smile and nodded stiffly,trying her hardest to ignore the sound of lapping waves that became louder as they neared the water. Steven didn't seem to buy it. "You know you can tell me if somethings wrong right? Maybe i can help" the girl shook her head,desperately trying to calm her breathing. Steven ran in front of her and stared at her terrified expression. He furrowed his brows in confusion,looking at (Y/n) and then at the water behind him before suddenly realizing.
"Your afraid of the water." Is wasn't a question as much as it was a statement. She swallowed hard and looked at her bare feet that where slightly covered in sand and nodded shamefully. Steven frowned and placed his hands on her shoulders,making her look up at him. "You could've just told me (n/n). We don't have to go if you don't want to." (Y/n) instantly felt guilty. Steven had went to great lengths to make her beach day perfect,having bought 2 (f/c) umbrellas and a whole bunch of snacks even after she told him it wasn't necessary. She sighed heavily and shook her head. "N-no Steven. I-it's fine. I can do this." With that she moved passed him,her heart beating loudly in her ears. She was about to give up and turn around until she felt something warm slide into her hand. She looked to her side to find Steven grasping her hand tightly,a sweet smile on his face.
"We can do it together" (Y/n) felt herself relax,returning Stevens smile,a small blush coating her cheeks . She would most definitely be lying if she said she didn't have a tiny crush on the boy. He was the nicest person she knew and on top of that,probably the coolest too. He had taken her to meet the Crystal Gems in the same week they had met, and they all seemed relatively fond of her. Except maybe for Pearl.
Steven slowly led her to the water that was a little ways in front of them. She took deep breaths to try and soothe her nerves and it seemed to work,if only slightly. She tried her best to imagine the small waves as calming instead of menacing and the deep blue as beautiful instead of terrifying. After a few steps,(Y/n) could feel the cool water around her ankles. She at Steven with shock and a small hint of fear on her face that caused him to start laughing lightly. Her fearful expression soon turned into a wide grin as she dug her toes in the sand. It seemed all her fear had washed away. Or so they thought before a small wave crashed against her thighs.
(Y/n) let out a loud shriek and leaped onto higher ground-or Steven in this case- wrapping her legs around his waist and clutching onto him like her dear life depended on it. "STEVEN OH MY GOD ITS TRYING TO KILL ME!" Steven let out a 'woah' instinctively grabbing onto (Y/n)'s hips before falling over backwards into the shallow water. The water wasn't deep enough to reach his ears,but it did soak his shorts and star printed tank top.
They stared at each other in shock for a while,(Y/n) straddling Stevens stomach while his hands where still firmly placed on her hips. She was the first to move,scrambling to get off Steven while apologizing profusely. Once she finally got to her feet she fell face first back into the water,her legs rising up over her head. Steven burst out into uncontrollable laughter rolling onto his side to see if his friend was okay. He was just in time to see her sitting up and groaning softly while clutching her head before she realized she was still in the water.
She jumped up again and successfully made her way onto the sand before falling over backwards onto her butt. Once Stevens laughter died down he stood up and made his way to the sulking girl,sitting beside her in the sand. He watched as her sparkling (e/c) eyes scanned the water,a sullen look on her face. Even with her hair sticking to her face as well as a great deal of sand,he thought she looked cute.
"Im sorry Steven" her voice was soft but Steven could make out the sadness laced in her words. "For what?" She looked up at him and Steven felt his heart shatter at the sight of her teary eyes. "Im sorry I ruined beach day" Steven instantly wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into his chest,rubbing soothing circles on her back. "Hey it's not your fault (n/n). Besides," he pulled away from her and wiped her tears. "This was probably the best beach day ever"
Steven stood up after a while,brushing the sand of his pants before offering her his hand. She gladly took it and allowed him to pull her up. "How about we go get some ice cream the go watch a movie?" (Y/n)'s face lit up and she nodded.
On their way over to get ice cream,Steven slipped his hand over (Y/n)'s smaller one. He didn't look at her but she could tell his face was almost as red as hers. She smiled softly and laced her fingers with his. "Hey Steven" Steven turned to her,half afraid of her freaking out because he grabbed her hand,but instead she stood up on her tiptoes and planted a shy kiss on his cheek. "Thanks for today." He bought his hand up to where her lips had been. "No problem" he smiled widely,continuing to the ice cream place.
Bonus:
Garnet,Amethyst and Pearl stood in the kitchen with perfect view of Steven and (Y/n),who where sitting in front of the tv watching Crying Breakfast friends. "Awh they're so cute together!" Amethyst smiled happily watching as the two laughed at something happening on tv. "I don't know. I always hoped Steven would end up with Connie" Pearl crossed her arms frowning a bit. Garnet leaned against the counter. "As long as Steven is happy we should be happy for him" .
Pearl sighed "Well," she started,her eyes landing on (Y/n) and Stevens intwined fingers making her smile. "I guess you're right."
