Idea is not mine. It's DarkDisco7's and if you haven't read her stories yet, check her out after reading this, will ya? Her stories are way more awesome~

Hero's Bane

For as long as young Hero remembers, it's always been just him and Steve.

(He remembers waking to a cold and barren house.

(not home because home wasn't supposed to be that desolate and lonely, it's supposed to be warm, happy, and loving-)

It's dark.

The fireplace has been put out and their parents couldn't be seen nor heard.

Everything is gone.)

(Home is Steve.)

"Hey, Hero!"

He can't remember what his name used to be.

(And honestly? He couldn't be bothered to remember what they called him because as far as he was concerned they never existed in his life.)

But Steve had teasingly called him "Hero" a lot and that's what he started to go by as, much to his brother's surprise and amusement.

(Steve comes out of their shared bedroom, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. His mouth moves and he knows he's calling his name but he can't hear him for some reason.

"Hey-" he still can't hear him, why can't he hear his own name? "-where are Mom and Dad?"

He doesn't answer him. He didn't know what to say.)

"Hero! It's time to go!"

"Yeah, yeah, I'm coming."

"You better be. Or do I have to splash you with milk to get your lazy butt moving?"

Hero gets up from his bed lazily, smiling at the 'threat'. Not that Steve would actually go through with it. His twin was too nice-

The male suddenly gets splashed with said drink and laughter erupts from a similar-looking albeit shorter brunet standing near the edge of the bed.

Okay, maybe he would.

"Hero!"

He pauses and stares questioningly at the sight of the teen who was heaving and panting, no doubt came to find him in a mad dash-

"It's," the younger wheezes, "i-it's Steve."

Hero quickly grasps the young man by the collar of his shirt. "What?! What's happened to Steve?!" His mind seemed to go a mile a minute, grim scenarios entering his mind like wildfire. "Damnit Jerry, tell me!"

A man suddenly bursts into the store in a panic. "Steve's fighting with someone!" He yelled, distress easily distinguish on his features. "I don't know who and why but-" Hero all but drops Jerry to the ground and rushes out the door, pushing the man harshly out of his way. "Ow!"

"Sorry!" the brunet yells back blindly, sprinting to the source of commotion outside.

This was all wrong. Steve was always the calm one. His twin would never use violence when there would always be a more peaceful way to solve matters. He was the one who'd always leap into the fray, swinging his sword everywhere. Rushing in blindly was his job, not Steve's!
