Chapter 53: Never Fail

Start from the beginning

He tangled his fingers through my hair and my tears stained his shirt. "I took him for granted. And he was just so real, you know? And now he's not even here. Like he wasn't real." I sniflled into his shoulder.

"And it's not your fault for acknowledging that. You did what you could. He was selfish to do this to you, and all the boys."

"Thanks." I let out a held in breath and let go of Peters embrace.

"Are you ready to eat now?" He asked as if he had won. But my mind was made up. And we were both going to lose.

"Yes."

Everyone watched me eat my porridge as if I was some bird with broken wings. I didn't see John and Michael, who were probably out hunting. There was also a dark quiet veil laid atop the camp.

No one played, or danced, or even talked. Felix came and sat down next to me without a word.

"What's happening?" I asked looking up at him. "We're in mourning Wendy." It was clear. Or course they were in mourning. I wasn't the only one to be upset about his death. They were just as much his family as I was.

"God I'm selfish." I said looking down at the half eaten bowl.

"Can't say I don't agree." I smirk a little. Felix was always so truthful. "I mean Pan has been worried sick and so have all the boys."

"Yeah." I shrug. How could I have not even noticed or cared. Sometimes I feel I don't even deserve all of this.

"Listen, Wendy, we forgive you. How could we not? You change people, for the best, and we will always appreciate that, but just don't forget that we're still here." I look up at Felix and for a split second I thought I was going to cry, but he quickly pulled me in a hug.

I smile and soak up as much of his lime and dirt smell. "Thanks."

He pulled away with a smile."There's that smile. Keep your chin up, Darling." But my smile feel and Felix saw it. "What's wrong?" He asked.

I didnt want to tell him, break his heart all over again, but I needed someone's help. "I just-I need to take a walk. By myself." He looked at me confused. "You see," I inch closer so no one could hear. "Pan's been a little on edge since my accident and he demands I always have a guard, but I really need some alone time. Could you cover for me?" I bite my lip as I wait for a response.

He sighed. "Sure." I thank him and walk off into the woods. I needed to see Tinkerbell.

I look up at the tree house. It feels like forever since I've been here. Things were different now. Last time I was here I was so anxious to be in Neverland, but now I'm sorrowful to leave. With a quick motion the latch opened and there was the ever skittish Tinkerbell.

"Wendy?" She asked, her face still upside down. I smirk in response. "Well don't just stand there, get your butt up here." She motioned with one hand.

I climb up into the small wooden house, the smell of vanilla hitting me. I sit down at one of her small stools. She sits across from me. "So what seems to be the problem?" She asked.

"You always assume it's a problem?"

"With you, always." She smirks playfully.

I look down. "Yeah, sorry about that."

"Oh I didn't-thats not what I mean- how'd you get hurt now?" She says changing the subject.

I look up, looking over my bandaged body. I guess I was kind of a sore sight. My arm, leg and chest was bandaged. "Had a little run in with a Neverbeast."
