"What was that all about," Ruzek asked when Erin and Jay had dashed out of Voight's office. "Oh it was nothing, just about being late." Erin replied as she sat down at her desk. "Well it didn't sound like nothing from out here," Ruzek said suspiciously. "Ruzek, just lay off," Jay intervened. "Alright, alright," Ruzek said offended.

On her break, Erin went for lunch with Kim. Kim had just gotten a new partner, Sean, and was in the middle of telling her about him when Erin couldn't wait any longer and told Kim about earlier in Voight's office. "I don't know what to do Kim," "Look Erin I don't know what to say, I mean you should really be talking to Jay about this." "You know what, I'm going to do that right now, " announced Erin as she got her coat and left the cafe.
"Jay we need to talk," Erin came up to him at his desk. "Yeh, I guess we do," he said as he stood up and followed Erin. "Look, I honestly don't want to lose my job, and I'm sure you don't either, so I think we should break up," Erin rushed. "WHAT?!" Jay asked looking hurt. "As much as I like you, we can't do this, it's for the best, for both of us." she concluded. "But Erin, I love you, so what if Voight kicks me out of the unit. I'd find another job so I could be with you," Jay stated seriously. "No Jay, I can't let you do that because you would be miserable anywhere other than here, being a detective," Erin said, "So that is why, I'm breaking up with you," she sniffed. Then she kissed Jay and walked away, back to her desk. Jay just watched her go.
