A hundred years.
Oh god.
"Caspian, you can't trust him." I said, putting the pieces together.
Caspian looked at me to answer before we both heard a low growl on the other side of the room. We both slowly took out our swords and walked down the stairs. It sent chills down my spine.
"Who's there?" Caspian asked.
All of a sudden, a creepy figure in a hood appeared from the right side and an old hag appeared from the left. My grip on my sword tightened as they both started walking towards us.
"I am hunger." The hooded figure said with a very deep voice, "I am thirst. I can fast for a hundred years and not die. I can lie a hundred nights on the ice and not freeze. I can drink a river of blood and not burst."
We both turned around towards Nikabrik and he just nodded his head at us. My stomach began to drop when I realized what kind of creatures these were. Wolves, hags, dwarves.
These were the creatures that fought alongside my mother.
"Show me... your enemies!" The hooded figures roared. It's hood flung off and revealed a large wolf. Caspian jumped slightly as he held his sword higher.
"What you hate, so will we." The hag said as she walked closer to me, "No one hates better than us."
I looked up at Caspian slowly and he looked down at me. He saw the tears building in my eyes. I was truly terrified for what was about to happen. He looked back up at the wolf and the hag.
"And you can guarantee Miraz's death?" Caspian asked them.
"And more." The hag said as she bowed to him.
"Caspian, you can't. Please trust me on this." I begged. He looked down at me before sighing.
"I'm sorry, but I have to try."
"You don't understand." I told him as he put his sword up. He was completely oblivious to what they were talking about. He didn't understand because he didn't live through it like I did. I put my sword down slowly but I still held onto it slowly.
"Let the circle be drawn." The hag said to the wolf.
The wolf grabbed Caspian and dragged him out of the way. The hag began to speak in a different language as the wolf used one of his claws to draw a circle around me. Nikabrik moved down the stairs and stood next to Caspian. The hag now stood in front of the arch and the wolf finished the circle. The hag took out a staff that looked way too familiar as the wolf back up and held Caspian back. The hag held up the staff and screamed as she plunged it into the ground. Ice immediately began to form around it and soon there was a large wall of ice in front of me. My heart pounded loudly in my ears as I saw a silhouette start to emerge from the ice. I wanted to run so badly, but I couldn't. My legs wouldn't move, and I knew that I was trapped in the circle. Then the moment I was dreading for happened.
My mother was right in front of me in the ice.
"Wait!" Caspian said when he realized what they were doing, "Get her out of there! This isn't what I wanted!"
I heard the wolf growl loudly and I knew that he now had a tighter grip on Caspian. My eyes wanted to tear away from her so badly, but they couldn't move. I heard my sword clatter to the ground next to me.
"One drop of my daughter's blood and you free me. Then I am yours, my king." The witch said to Caspian.
I felt someone grab my arm and hold it up. I looked down and saw a knife slice my hand open. Blood trickled down my hand as I winced in pain. I looked back up at my mother and she smiled down at me.
"Hazel dear, just one drop." She said to me lightly.
All of a sudden, it was like all of my emotions were turned off. It felt like I was drawn to her. My face lightened slowly as I looked back up at her. Her hand slowly started cracking through the ice, and soon enough, her hand was out of the ice and reaching out to me. Nikabrik slowly let go of me, and I began to reach out to her. A small smile grew on my face as she smiled down at me. A voice inside of me was telling me to stop, but I couldn't.
"I've missed you so much." She said to me as she continued to reach out to me.
"Stop!" I heard Peter yell loudly from behind me.
All of a sudden, I heard fighting around me. I wanted to turn around and look, but I couldn't. I felt my feet start to move forward, just so I could get to her quicker. She smiled down at me wider and continued to reach for me. This felt so right, and I didn't know why. My mind was at ease and it just seemed so peaceful. A warm feeling kept flowing through me. She looked up quickly when she heard the wolf growl behind me. She looked down at me before reaching out further.
"Come on! Come, my daughter."
We were so close to touching. Just one more step, and she would be free. Why couldn't I stop? I loved the feeling, but I also hated it. All of a sudden, I felt myself being shoved and I was on the floor and out of the circle.
"Get away from her!" A voice said.
I felt light headed as I was on the ground. I slowly sat up and saw Marcel standing in the circle with his sword pointing up at the witch. I felt two people grab my arms and help pull me up. Tears built in my eyes as I looked at Marcel and the witch.
"Marcel don't!" I yelled at him.
"Marcel dear, I've missed you." The witch said to him as she held her hand out to him. Marcel gazed up at her and I could see he was slowly turning into how I was.
"Come. Just one drop." She said to him as she held her hand out. His expression softened as he looked up at her.
"You know you can't do this alone." She said to him.
He looked up at her before he slowly began to put his sword down. I was ready to break free from the two people who were holding onto me, but I immediately held back when I saw a sword go through the ice. Marcel looked up at the ice puzzled as it started to crack in front of him. He covered himself with his arms as the ice cracked and collapsed in front of him. We looked up and saw Edmund with his sword held up. He looked down at us before nodding his head and walking away slowly.
"Are you alright?" Peter's voice asked to my left.
I slowly turned towards him and I looked up at him. He saw the tears built in my eyes, and I didn't hesitate to fling my arms around him. He held onto me tightly as I cried on his shoulder. One of his hands was around my waist while the other ran through my hair gently.
"It's alright. You're safe now." He comforted me quietly.
"I'm so sorry." Caspian said to me as he placed a hand gently on my shoulder.
"It's not your fault, Caspian." I said to him. I couldn't be mad at Caspian over this. He didn't know what they were up to.
I held onto Peter tightly as I looked up at the arch and saw the ice along the sides of it. I looked down and saw the Witch's staff sticking out of the ground. I never thought that I would see that again. Marcel looks over at me and I could see the tears building in his eyes as well. He understood how I felt, and he was the only person who would. Seeing the witch again definitely made me the most terrified I have ever been in eleven years.
What did we just about do?
