Chapter 8 - The Game Plan.

Start from the beginning

"What do you mean?" She asked him.

"You've seen him." He said as he nodded his head towards Aslan, "I just wish he would give me some sort of proof."

"Maybe we're the ones who need to prove ourselves to him." She said to him.

She placed her hand on Peter's shoulder and he just sighed lightly and looked back up at the carving of Aslan. I slowly began to walk forward because I didn't want to ruin the moment between Peter and Lucy, but I had to talk to him. My mouth opened to speak, but Edmund walking into the room ruined my chance.

"Pete?" He said and Peter and Lucy turned to look at him.

"You better come quickly." Edmund said.

Peter and Lucy stood up quickly and Lucy ran after Edmund. Peter turned around and his eyes slightly widened when he saw me standing there. His face relaxed after a moment and gave me a small smile. He ran over to me, grabbed my hand, and pulled me out of the room with him. We reached the top of the How and looked out into the clearing ahead of us. There were a bunch of Telmarine soldiers coming towards the How slowly. My grip on Peter's hand tightened as we watched them march. They stopped at the same time and someone on a horse came riding through the middle of the soldiers. Miraz and a couple of his men stood in front of the army on their horses and looked up at us. I looked up at Peter and he looked back down at Miraz. The Telmarines had came to let us know that they were here.

The war was coming.

"That's your next big plan?" Trumpkin asked Peter in disbelief, "You want to send a little girl into the darkest parts of the forest alone?!"

"It's our only chance!" Peter told him.

"And she won't be alone." Susan spoke up.

After the Telmarines arrived, it was time to come up with the game plan. Peter decided that it was time to look for Aslan because we needed him now more than ever. Lucy is the only person who's seen him, so Lucy and Susan are going to go search for Aslan. Trumpkin wasn't too keen on the idea of Lucy going out into the woods. I found it pretty cute how much Trumpkin has grown to care for Lucy. He walked over to Lucy and it looked like he had a glint of tears in his eyes.

"Haven't enough of us died already?" Trumpkin asked her worriedly.

"Nikabrik was my friend too, but he lost hope. Queen Lucy hasn't. And neither have I." The badger spoke up from the corner. Reepicheep jumped onto the table and pulled out his sword.

"For Aslan." He spoke.

"For Aslan." A bear said from the corner, which made me smile. Peter placed his hand lightly on my waist and I looked up at him and gave him a small smile.

"Then I'm going with you." Trumpkin said to Lucy.

"No, we need you here." Lucy said as she placed her hand on his shoulder.

"We have to hold them off until Lucy and Susan get back." Marcel spoke up as he walked over to the table.

"If I may," Caspian spoke up which all caused us to look at him, "Miraz may be a tyrant and a murderer, but as king, he is subject to the traditions and expectations of his people."

"There is one in particular that may buy us some time." Marcel said, the only one understanding what Caspian was getting at.

"What are you talking about?" I asked him.

"Some wars were decided by single combat. Each side would choose a champion and they would face off. The winning champion would win the war for their people. Some single combats do take place in larger battles though. For this one, we just need to keep Miraz stalled long enough to buy Lucy some time or we can use it to keep as many people alive as possible." He explained, "You're the reader between the two of us. How did you not know that?"
