A/N: Takes place during the events of Transformers: The Last Knight

The two leaders of both Decepticon and Autobot were once again fighting to the death over the right of the planet that Optimus clung so desperately to, the one he called home. Metal clashed against metal. Everything was a blur as the mechs danced in combat, with their own malicious intents to overcome the other. Energon pumped through their racing sparks high off adrenaline. Their bodily instincts acted on survival alone. Everything around them from the crashing debris to the lightning cracking and illuminating the scene was faded as the mechs had their own electricity forming between them.

"Megatron, destroy him!", the shriek of the floating entity above them called out. The commands of the goddess were tormenting him. They pierced through his audials echoing through his processor with every intent to transform him into a barbaric killing machine. They appeared to have a mind of their own, ushering the warlord into taking such drastic actions against Optimus. He couldn't control his own impulses. It was driving him mad.

Megatron wanted to follow Quintessa's wishes and put an end to Optimus' quest on destroying their maker, but something trickling in the back of his helm was taking hold of his thoughts during the middle of his quarrel with his long lost comrade. Megatron had fought his nemesis for so many eons, he knew Optimus inside and out, or so he thought before they became rivals. He could easily predict the Prime's next moves from all the past battles they've fought if he concentrated hard enough. So why wouldn't he? Why did he hesitate? Because the connection he had with Optimus never left his spark. It dwelled in his spark chamber all this time. Somewhere deep in it's equity were his true feelings laying dormant under his warmongering demeanour, hidden in the shadows. Only when he came close to terminating his only connection to his past did it resurface. He never wanted to admit it after everything he had fought for, everything he believed in. Even if he did, who's to say Optimus would ever accept him for the monster he has become?

All these pointless thoughts and emotions made his helm fuzzy. Instinctively he was fighting back, but his mind was missing in action. It almost cost him an arm as he barely dodged the knight's mighty sword that struck at him with a furious swipe. Optimus growled in the back of his throat as he tried to withdraw his weapon and strike again, but a servo grabbed hold of it to prevent it from moving. Optimus jerked the sword in attempt to set it free. He shot a glare at Megatron who could sense the Autobot baring his denta through his battle mask. Optimus struck the gladiator across the helm dazing him for a mere second before the weight of his sturdy frame pushed him down in attempt to overcome him.

The constant mind of betrayal played through the Autobot's mind. It made his spark ache, but not just because of how far the gladiator went to turn his back on him. He was more upset of the love that he could never let go. He clasped onto it like it was the only thing keeping him alive and well. Whenever he caught the glimpse of those beaming crimson optics, he wished they were looking back at him with passion and devotion. He wished he could tell him how much he needed him and watch those optics fade into something more pure and docile. Primus, why did things have to be this way? If only he knew Megatron's true intentions when they first met. Maybe he could of stopped this war from happening. Maybe he could of stopped himself from falling for him in the first place. The Megatron he once stood beside perished eons ago, and all he ever wanted was to live those moments again. The way the tyrant threw him around blinded by anger and the thirst for power, Optimus feared he could never see him for the calm and sentient being he used to be. But knowing him, his soul wouldn't rest thinking of such negative accusations. His pure nature wouldn't allow it. He had to believe in someone other than himself. Despite the Decepticon's intentions, Megatron wasn't the type to follow orders. Perhaps it was the infectious adjuration of Quintessa's shrilling voice locking him under a spell like she did with him. Or maybe he was thinking all too hard and was seeking an excuse that would find his behaviour forgivable. Whatever the case, he couldn't back down. His body was screaming with the need to fight or flight. He was unsure which one made more sense at this moment.
