Chapter 8: Training: Climb or Fall!

"Come on!!!" Naruto yelled as he and Sasuke fell back down. Sakura was slumped over, tired trying to make it to the top of the tree. 'Naruto hasn't made any progress at all. Soon he'll give up and throw a tantrum.' Sakura thought as Naruto yelled, 'See? He's so predictable sometimes. Huh?' She stopped when she saw Naruto waving at (Y/n), signaling her to come down. She watched as he pulled her aside away from Sasuke and Sakura. "Hey, (Y/n), can you give me some tips on how to climb higher?" Naruto said in a hushed whisper so only (Y/n) could hear. "Let's keep it from Sasuke, ya?" he added. "Alright come here," she said as she placed her hand next to her mouth, covering her words. "Don't get frantic or excited. Relax and concentrate so that you can keep a constant amount of chakra at your feet. Just try walking up first, you'll get much higher, and when you feel like you got the hang of it, jump back down and make a run for it to get even higher than before. And judging from both of you, you don't use enough chakra so you end up falling down without much progress. Sasuke, on the other hand, uses too much chakra and ends up being pushed away from the tree forcefully. Now, go do it!"

"Looks like you got some time to kill by yourself. Where is the blonde boy, the stuck up one, and the scary one?" Tazuna questioned Sakura. "Naruto and Sasuke are in the middle of tree climbing training" "And the girl?" "She finished but stuck around to help." "Did she make it to the top?" "Yeah" "And you don't have to do that?" Tazuna questioned further. "I'm exceptional, so Kakashi-sensei told me to guard you," she answered proudly. "You're joking, right?" he said unconvinced. "What?!" Sakura said as she vein popped out of her forehead and gritted her teeth.

"Alright, you can do it Naruto!" (Y/n) yelled looking down at Naruto. Naruto's mark progress was just a bit higher than Sasuke's, and the Uchiha was getting noticeably annoyed by this fact. Both of them glared at each other as they quickly stood up. 'I won't lose to you!' Naruto furrowed his eyebrows, so did Sasuke. "AHH!!" both yelled as they ran up the tree. "Come on, you two!" (Y/n) yelled down at them as they continued to run. 'How long do you think it'll take them?' 'I give them until tomorrow.' 'Really. I don't know, they're pretty close.' 'Wanna bet?' 'Nope nope nope nope. Last time you won a bet, you cut off all of your chakra and I almost died because I was nearly out of chakra and I was up against THREE ANBU NINJAS, KURAMA.' 'Hey, you still killed them in the end.' 'BUT I ALMOST DIED.' 'Like I said, you still won.' 'Ah, be quiet...' (Y/n) snapped back when she heard Naruto yell, "Geez, what the heck's wrong with you, dattebayo?! Don't interfere while I'm trying to concentrate!" "U...uh... Well..." Sasuke began. "What is it?" the blonde hissed. "Y-You asked (Y/n) to give you some tips before... What did she say to you...?" the Uchiha hesitantly asked as his pale cheeks were dusted with a light pink. As soon as those words left his mouth, a goofy smile appeared plastered onto the Uzumaki's face, as if he won. "Not telling," he said as his goofy face snapped into a serious one. They both glared at each other until they heard a giggle. The two turned and saw (Y/n) land on the ground still giggling. "Didn't know Sasuke Uchiha was capable of blushing," she said as she tried to stop the small laughs escaping from her mouth. She began walking away from the two, "Come on, let's go. It's getting late and you two need to eat if you want to get stronger or make any more progress," she looked back at the two. "Ugh, fine," Naruto whined as both began to walk next to (Y/n).

"So Naruto, did the tips work?" the masked Genin asked as they walked back to Tazuna's home. "Yeah! I'm just a bit higher than Sasuke!" the knucklehead gloated making Sasuke pout. "Whatever..." He mumbled. "Oh come on Sasuke! I can help ya tomorrow! I can hold your hand till you make it t-" "Miss (Y/n)!" voices behind the three Genin interrupted her. They all turned around and saw five children running towards them with large smiles on their faces. "Oh hey! How are you guys doing?" the Hatake said as she smiled under her mask. "Mom is was so happy when I brought home your gift!" "My family is thankful towards you Miss!" "The food was delicious, thank you!" The kids began to thank the girl. "Hold on a second. What the heck are they talking about?" Naruto asked shutting all the kids up. "Miss (Y/n) gave us all a present!" one girl spoke up. "What was that?" Sasuke asked. "She brought every kid in the village into the forest and then used this amazing ninja jutsu to give us all two big bags of food!" "Yeah! Each bag was the bigger than us!" "It's enough food to last us months!" The kids told Naruto and Sasuke. The both looked at her in surprise as she smiled sheepishly. "What, I couldn't wait for the old man to complete the bridge. They were starving. No kid should be left like that," she said as she ruffled the hair of the kid standing in front of her giving them all a smile from behind her mask. "Okay, now. You guys head home now. It's dark out and I want you to get there unharmed," (Y/n) said looking at the kids. "Alright! Goodnight Miss (Y/n)!" One of them yelled as they ran off. "Come on. You guys look terrible, tired, and hungry. I'm not having that," the Hatake said as she pushed both boys back to Tazuna's home.
