Bam met Mercy at the dock the next morning to say goodbye. She was traveling light with only a large back pack and jacket. "You'll remember to check all the recycle stops along the way." Mercy pulled out her first letter and handed it to him. "Promise me you won't read it until I'm on the boat."

Bam took the envelope and slipped it into his back pocket. "I'll save it for tonight. It will give me something to do later on."

"The ferry is getting ready to leave. Walk with me?" Bam took Mercy's hand and escorted her to the ferry. It was full of tourists and locals headed to Juneau. He hated the thought of putting her on the ferry alone but she would have done it anyway had she never met him. He resolved himself to the fact that this could be the last time he saw her or the start of something special. Either way, he could dedicate a couple of weeks to this chase across Alaska. It wouldn't be the first time he had a dry spell with women.

Mercy turned to Bam and pulled him closer to her whispering so no one could hear her. "I'll be very disappointed if I don't get to see you again." She kissed him but not like he kissed her the day before. This wasn't a first date sort of kiss. This was a kiss that said I want more. He was slightly surprised by it and pleasantly so.

"I will find you." He reminded her. "And when I do, I'm claiming my treasure and pleasure."

Mercy liked his sauciness. Maybe that's what made her like him so much. He was cocky, spirited and one damn fine kisser.

The ferry horn sounded signaling it's departure in the next few minutes. "Here, take this with you. When you see me again, you can return it." Bam slipped off one of his necklaces and placed it around her neck. It was a St. Christopher medallion. "He's the patron saint of travelers. He will keep you safe."

"Thank you Bam. I'll return it to you. I promise."

Bam stood on the dock until he could no longer see the ferry. The goodbyes were always the hardest he thought to himself. What if she was the one?
