I actually got this idea from a Prinxiety roleplay. The roleplay didn't happen like this, but in the roleplay, Prince lost his voice and had to use sign language to talk, and that got me thinking, and I came up with this idea.
~~~
I walked into the kitchen and saw Prince.
"Hey Sir-Sings-A-Lot," I said, casually referring to him by a nickname that I've used before. Creativity was never my department. That's Prince's thing.
Prince saw me and waved casually.
"You not talking or something?" I asked.
Prince shook his head.
Lost my voice, he signed in sign language.
"Since when do you know sign language?" I asked.
Taught myself, same as Spanish. Forgot when exactly.
So sign language is the only way he can communicate now, since he lost his voice... Interesting...
I smirked and decided to tease him a bit. "Uh, what? Sorry, I can't understand you." I shrugged helplessly. "Don't know sign language."
Idiot, he signed.
If I weren't pretending not to know sign language to mess with him, I would have fired back.
"Ah, sorry, what was that?" I asked him, innocently.
Prince made a gesture that conveyed the message, It was nothing. Forget it.
I wanted to laugh. The little liar.
Though frankly, this is Prince, after all. I don't know what I would expect.
"What're you gonna do if Thomas calls you for a video and you can't talk?" I asked.
Prince shrugged.
I was thirsty, so I grabbed a cup from the cupboards and got some water from the fridge. Once I had water, I pulled myself up onto the kitchen counter, and sat there with my legs crossed, casually.
That's when I spilled my water. I was drinking it a bit too fast and it spilled all over my hoodie and everything.
"Aww, shit." I sighed.
Prince smiled in a "ha, you loser" way.
I showed him a rude gesture that you wouldn't need to know sign language to understand. He returned the gesture by sticking his tongue out at me teasingly.
I went to clean up the mess. I got a kitchen towel and started to wipe up all the spilled water, and attempted to dry off my hoodie.
Prince was still grinning at me with a smug look to his face, and I was done using the towel in my hands, so I really only saw one option. I flung the soggy, wet towel at Prince's arrogant face.
He glared at me, his face now slightly wet, and I snickered.
Prince held the wet towel in one hand, and used the other hand to flip me off, staring me dead in the face as he did so.
"Aww." I said sarcastically. "Charming."
Prince cleared his throat and attempted to speak. His voice came out dry and raspy. "What was the towel for?"
"Oh, look, Ariel can talk after all." I said.
Prince didn't answer. He probably didn't like talking when he had lost his voice.
He grabbed a cup of tea that had been on the counter. He had already drank about half of it.
"I'm gonna head out." Prince said in his raspy voice.
"Alright. Hope your voice comes back soon." I said.
Prince gave me a small smirk that said "thanks." He started to walk out, then paused. "And Anxiety?"
"Yeah?" I said.
He turned to me and gave me a small, genuine smile. Then he sighed something in sign language.
I love you.
With that, he left, leaving me frozen in shock.
~~~
Here's a nice little fluffy one shot to counteract my recent angst. Sorry it's short, though.
Also, if you didn't get it... Basically, Anxiety understands sign language, but he pretends not to, just to mess with Prince. Prince, thinking Anxiety won't understand him, signs "I love you" on his way out. However, Anxiety did understand it, and is now shocked because Prince said he loves him. Does it make sense now? Sorry if it was a bit confusing in the one shot.
Also, writing this one shot makes me think of this fan art of a character named Hearthstone, or Hearth, from a series called Magnus Chase and the Gods Of Asgard. Hearth is deaf, and he uses sign language, and there's this one fan art...:

And that's what I thought of making this one shot.
