After the ordeal I went through, with the whippings and punches and insults, the only thing I wanted more than anything else in the world was to wake up in a soft warm bed surrounded and protected by Marcus, Athenadora and Caius.
But no such luck. When my eyes open, the pain assaults me again and I realise none of my wounds have been bandaged or cleaned. In fact, we're still in the godamn building where the contacts are.
I thought I'd been asleep forever and a day, but meh, clearly not. I'm still in Demetri's arms, as he runs at top speed and I can hear Liam's and Felix's steps behind us.
I feel a huge amount of nausea as Demetri guides me through the building we're in. My body sways as he rushes us all around corners and down rickety staircases.
"Demetri." I groan as I start to heave and gag from the feeling of sickness overcoming me. "Hush." He hisses urgently. I blink at his stern tone. "Bitch, I'm in pain here. Hurry the fuck up before I bleed out all over your clothes." I snark, gripping onto him to prevent falling out of his arms.
"Clearly," He grunts as he shoves his way through a door. "You're fine if you have the energy for sarcasm." He shoots back and if I wasn't half dead with most of my skin in ribbons, then I'd fucking kill him. Bastard.
"I'm in such a foul mood. I swear I wi-"
"I haven't the time for a competition, Lee." He cuts me off as we reach another door and I can see sunlight. This is going to be tricky. "Demetri." I try pointing out that the sun seems to be at it's highest right now.We skid to a halt and Felix also seems to be weighing up the idea of exposing himself in the sun. "Suicidal." He lets out a low whistle. "I can't." He shakes his head, stepping backwards. "There's no way we're getting out of here in mid daylight." He says to Demetri and he scoffs.
"Hush." He repeats. "We have to leave. Immediately. There is no other alternative. This is our only option at keeping Lee and Liam alive." He gestures to my body. "She's losing more blood by the second." He tuts, and I realise for the first time that the front of Demetri's cloak is wet from my blood.
"Oops. Sorry." I try to wipe it away but it's hopeless. "Stop." He bats my hand away quickly. "Don't waste your remaining energy on me." He commands, heading towards the last door. "We could just stay here." Felix points out and Liam nods in agreement.
We've reached a small tin room, with a huge metal door and a window with the sun shining through brightly. "We can't." Demetri insists. He turns and gestures to the door we came from. "What if some of them come after us and find us?" He raises his eyebrows at Felix.
Felix sighs in defeat. "There's no other option. Liam," He addresses and Liam steps forward. "Open the door and see what's outside." He orders and Liam approaches it gingerly. I groan from fatigue and wonder in awe, how Demetri is still holding up so well even after carrying me for so long.
Liam pulls open the door a crack and more sunlight shoots through. Demetri hisses and steps backwards. Liam peeks through. "It's a street." He announces. "Deserted." He adds and a smile forms on Demetri's face. "Excellent!" He applauds, and Liam pulls open the door fully.
"As long as no one spots us, we shouldn't have to worry about our skin....shining." He walks us through and we're free, out into the sun. The street only has one side of houses and none opposite. There are only fields in front of us. "Where in London are we now?" I ask and Demetri shrugs.
"We're outside of London. I'm not sure where." He gently passes me to Felix who lifts me in his sturdy arms and I feel ten feet taller at his height level. I rest my head against his chest and he holds me tightly. Demetri takes the nearest car and smashes the window before opening the door.
He slides inside and we follow suit. Liam sits with me in the back and Felix has to slouch in the passenger seat. Demetri takes the wheel and rips out the wires, working his magic. As soon as the engine starts up, he takes off driving in whatever direction.
"How did you find me?" I ask wearily as I slump into Liam in the backseat. Demetri smirks. "I am a tracker." He reminds and I think back to Marcus's words when they found me in Romania. Demetri is a tracker...
"Then," I sit up with as much energy as I can muster. "That means you can locate Priest and Marcus?" I suggest and Demetri continues to smile. "One step ahead." He waggles his eyebrows and I realise that he's back to his normal self again.
"We're on the way now." Felix adds, pointing ahead at an even more deserted street. "What if..." I stammer, hesitating. "What if there's more contacts inside?" I tense at the idea but Liam lightens up, brandishing his long blade, still sticky with Matthias's blood.
I shiver.
"If there are, then we just have to go with it." Demetri preaches, pulling over up onto a curb. "You will stay in the car. Felix and I will go inside. Liam," He hesitates for a second and I see Liam grip onto his blade in anticipation.
"You will stay here." He decides and Liam's eyes grow cold. "I'm coming with you. Priest is in there and if he needs help, I'm going to save him. End of story." He argues and goes to open the car door but Demetri's fist hits the dashboard and Liam deflates.
"You're a human." He hisses, back to his ordering-taking charge mode. "Hold up, Lord Commander." I snark, clamping a hand on Demetri's shoulder. "I think Liam should go with you. He's made for this type of thing." I argue yet Demetri shakes his head.
"I can't stay here and let you have all the fun." Liam smiles manically. "Let's go." He opens the car door before Demetri can say anything else. Demetri sighs, defeated.
"Stay here." He says to me and I scoff. "I'm not coming with you. I can't go in just wearing my pants can I?" I shrug, through it sends pain shooting down my body. "Thank God you're flat chested." Felix tries to joke and I smile.
"Yeah," I mumble, laying across the seats so no one can see me. "Thank God."
