As soon as I come into my biology class, I place my things on the lab table and sit in my assigned seat, waiting for the lesson to start. It isn't long before the bell rings, and our teacher, Mrs. Weaver stands from behind her desk, gaining the attention of the room. Behind her is a whiteboard, and on it is a list of rules for today's dissection. Today's subject: crayfish. That should be easy enough.

After attendance, our instructor tells us who we'll be partnered with, and it came as no surprise when I wound up with April, who's seated next to me. As she spoke, the teacher gives each group a paper with instructions on it. I take in a deep breath before peering over to the redhead, who I find twirling a strand of her hair while guilty looking down at the table. I frown at this and fold my hands in front of me on the table. As upset as I am about the whole "avoiding me to save her own skin" thing, I'm not one to hold grudges. We've known each other a long time. I don't want to keep this tension between us, so I look over again and force a small smile, which she seems surprised by, but smiles back.

"Since we have an odd number of students, Havik, you can work with April and Y/N." I swear April's soul left her body, for she turned as pale as a ghost, after hearing this. The boy sitting at the front of the class turns his head to view our table, leading her to sink a little in her chair, while I kindly smile and wave at him. I see his shoulders lower a bit when he faces away and wonder if he had sighed.

"Oh, great. Now we have to work with the psychopathic freak," mutters my partner, clearly upset, as she rests her chin on the palm of her hand. My smile fades to a thin line at her comment, and I feel the sudden need to defend the insect lover.

"Calm down, will you?" I give her a warning nudge with my elbow, directing her attention towards me. "He's not actually that bad once you get past the anger issues."

"Did he brainwash you or something?" she questions, looking at me like I had suddenly grown horns out of my head, but before I could retort, Havik sat down across from us. I drop it entirely, not wanting to argue about the blonde when he's right there. "I'll go get the crayfish," April volunteers almost immediately, practically jumping out of her seat to grab the tray of supplies we need. I heave a sigh, shaking my head at her behavior. I do hope she'll come around.

"How are you doing today, Havik?"

"Fine," he says softly while resting his head upon folded arms. I smile at him and catch a hint of pink on his cheeks, which nearly made me give out a snort. My grin had grown a bit, though. My attention is brought back to the project when a metal tray is set down in front of us and April takes her seat. We slip on the disposable gloves and have a look at the instructions when, from the corner of my eye, I catch the redhead grinning.
