This is an AMAZING review of 'Awakening' by the wonderful and talented @jyothi89. THANK YOU so much for taking the time to read my novel and for writing such a lovely, fantastic, amazing (I could go on and on and on) review. I <3 you! Also, please do check out her work. It will be worth it I promise!

The story starts off with a fantastic intriguing prologue. Vladimir Alcaeus is a powerful school headmaster with an intense past of defeating Mortimer, the antagonist. But due to certain misinterpreted circumstances, Mortimer, having a capability to command the dead, comes back to like and Vladimir soon realizes that it not him to see Mortimer's end.

The journey begins when he sits down with few officials and decides to find and train more teenagers with special powers, passed down to them from their ancestors, and locate one such person with special ability to kill Mortimer once and for all.

Here is where our protagonist enters. Alex aka Alexandra Raven (beautiful name). She is a day to day normal teenager. She leads a normal life with normal friends. The day soon arrives when turns sixteen and "awokes" her powers. She is a waterbender.

The rest of the story revolves around her being an ' awakening' scout, how she embraces her reality of not being normal, finds new friends in the academy set up by Vladimir and learns to control her powers.

The best thing that stands out about her is the shift in her character. She is extremely polite with the people she likes and on the contrary, she can be dreadful with those who are obnoxious. Her inner voices control her sometimes that she is unable to restrain. She sometimes have these weird dreams that according to her is only a dream. At the end she is explained that this is regarding the connection she has with the most powerful and dangerous, risen from the dead, Mortimer.

This story is a page turner. The more you read, the more you want to know about Alex and her ancestors from whom she has acquired her powers. The author has set up beautiful world, with never seen before awakening powers. My personal favourite power, other than Alex's, is Jasmine's with her ability to change the weather. Just brilliant.

The writing is top notch in every sense. The literature is easily understandable (unlike most of the wattpad fantasy writers), gets you hooked instantly. The narration is smooth and we never to get a point where we feel tired or bored of the story.

The only flaw that I found is the lack of an adventure. Alex was easy to make believe that she is different. According to me as a reader, I did not find her mesmerized nor be in denial of being an awakening. She just says yes, packs her bag and joins the academy. Even during her days in the academy she doesn't try to find out why they were chosen as next generation awakening scouts. And it takes her forever to read the story of her ancestor (Alistair Raven) which certainly seems to be the most important character in the whole series.

In addition to it, Alex has another problem (and this might be only because I am just too Indian. Please disregard if you think it's false), she falls for every guy she meets. Right from the scout who brings her to the academy, to her professor Mr. Allen and she is (or not) in love with her friend Raphael. I sincerely request author to please look into these matters to make your story more fascinating than it already is.

Overall, I love the story and I love the author. She has truly captured my interest since chapter one and I am and will be reading the rest of the books in the series only to find out how Alex becomes the one person Vladimir is looking for. All the best!
