I awoke the next morning with a slight crick in my neck, and my head on Anna's stomach. Huh she reversed us this time.
I lifted myself slowly and got a cover to put on her. She hasn't been sleeping in my room and I wasn't gonna leave her out here. I turned on the t.v. and sat at the end of the couch. She was so peaceful, so radiant. How can someone mess up another person so much.
Yesterday was alittle interesting, it started off with Tyler and I just arguing, and Anna stood by laughing at our stupidity. We went back out to the market to make up for my idiocy with my brother and came across some children, about the age of fifteen. They were standing in a circle much like the older men when I was with Anna. I looked at her with worried eyes, then moved a bit closer. She grabbed my arm and pulled me back, whispering into my ear." Be careful."
I guess she sensed it too, these kids were strong. They emmited aura of a mage, a well trained mage meant to suit a kings needs. I peered over them and saw a young looking boy. His head was covered in curly brown hair. He had freckles spreading from the tip of his forehead to the rump of his chin. He was a darker skin tone than I was, not completely dark but just light enough to pass for a Latino boy.
I pushed my way through," Okay, Okay. What's happening here?" There were two other boys kicking him to the ground, as the others watched. Cheering and clapping them on to keep going. The boy was on his knees, begging for them to stop. I felt a tear well up in my eye, but I shook it away so I could help this kid up. I reached out my arm and he grabbed it, I looked back at Anna who was now smiling.
The kids stood back and looked confused, the biggest walked up. He was almost my height, his hair was a light red, it was almost mythic. He looked me straight in the eye." What are you doing here. You weren't invited."
"I don't have to be invited to crash a party." I turned to the kid in the middle, "Let's go. And all of you scram." They all doubted me, but I wasn't trying to let go of all anger. I felt heat boil in the veins in my eyes, and suddenly all of their expressions changed. They were fearful, scared, frozen. My eyes scrunched, my teeth bared, my breathing got heavy, then I couldn't hear. It was like every thing was a blur to my ears, but one thing.
Anna's voice.
I heard her calling my name, I heard her crying my name and telling me to relax. But for some reason, I ignored it. I felt so close, so damn close to my limit. Then I felt a grip, lightly taking me around the stomach. That grip got tighter and almost stopped my breathing. I recognize the warmth, it was Anna holding me back. The blur and heat in my eyes lifted and left me cold. I looked around like I didn't know where I was, then put my hand on Anna's. I turned around and looked at her, she was trembling. Tears streamed from her eyes, I looked down and wiped one from her cheek. Lifting her chin to make her eyes meet with mine. They widened, then narrowed, she launched herself into my arms, then released.
"DON'T DO THAT!" She screamed at me."Quit scaring me, quit letting your anger take over you. You need to relax." She slipped her arms around me again, and buried her cheek in my chest. I could feel more tears falling from her eyes. Why do I feel like this? Like a warm but cold feeling. I can't let her know, I've gotta hold it back better, one more out burst like that and she could be in danger.
I shifted my head to look at the boy, then loosened Anna's grip on me. I crouched to meet below his low hanging head." You okay kid?"
He didn't look at me," I could have helped myself, ya know."
"Kid, those teens aren't others you should be messing with. They could seriously hurt you. And then I'd really be angry with them, I mean who goes around hurting little boys?"
He clenched his fists," I'm not a boy," I cocked my head."Don't even think about calling me a girl either."
"Then what are you? Wait don't answer that. Were they picking on you because you're non binary?" They nodded their head." Listen I live right up the street, and over the bridge if you ever need help I could..."
They cut me off," I don't want your help. I'm a black magic mage in training, I don't need anyone's help." They began to walk away.
"Wait, give us your name wise ol' mage." I teased.
"Camren, and it wasn't nice to meet you Hailey." They chuckled then waved a hand back and continued walking.
I looked at Anna and she snickered at me. I pushed her shoulder and took her into my embrace again. Warmth. That's what I needed, especially after that. She gladly accepted, and held on.
If only she knew why that happened, hell if even I know. But I can't let it get to me or I could be in trouble.
We walked back and fed my brother a small feast Anna and I prepared. She even designated me her assistant cook. She dubbed me with a wooden spoon and we laughed. Tyler was a little confused but just pushed it aside and kept eating, after that he went in his room and I passed out on the couch. I guess I fell onto Anna, but she didn't seem to mind, so I left it alone.
