Thomas looked at the girl in the log sharpening her knife. She looked deep in thought and it worried him that she'd accidentally cut himself. He elbowed the boy next to him, Newt. "What's her deal?" He asked.

Newt chuckled, "Her deal?" He said amusingly.

Thomas rolled his eyes looking back at the girl. "No, really. What's her story? There's something about her, she's different."

Newt slanted his eyes protectively. "Watch your words, Greenie." He threatened. Thomas was a bit taken back at his change of attitude. Newt sighed, "Not long before you came, she had a boyfriend, Nick. They were the perfect couple ever since she came up in that shuckin box. Nick was, at first, skeptical but they grew close. He'd always talk about her whenever she wasn't there. 'The girl outta watch herself' He'd say, 'That one got an attitude' " Newt said mimicking Nick. He smiled fondly at the memory.

"Then what?" Thomas asked.

"Then, after a year, he'd finally got the guts to ask her out. Probably the worst thing I've ever seen, he was nervous. Ya know what it was like seeing the 'tough guy' stutter and loose his footing talking to some girl?" He smiled looking at the girl across the field. "She didn't know what she was getting into saying yes. They went through a lot, I'd tell ya that. Never left each others side though. They were good for the boys, kept them in line, showed them good can come from the bad. Some would take advantage of it," He tsked, "Never went well for the poor shanks."

"Where is he now?" Thomas asked not knowing someone named Nick.

"Like I said, not long before you came, he was killed." Newt said his tone changing drastically. "She sat by him, crying. We had no idea what to do, only Nick can do that stuff, y'know? It took five of us to get her away from him." Newt sniffed feeling pity for the girl. "Three years, ain't nothin can take back the time. She ain't ever gonna be the same girl we knew. Wicked will feel our pain one day. If not by us, then by her."

A/n - I realize not many know about the existence of Nick he was literally mentioned like twice but he's my bb idc. So if you wanna know about him he was the first in command before Thomas came and after Chuck came. They haven't explained his death but Alby then stepped up to take his place. Rip tho lol

But uh I plan on making these longer ( 700 + words) I'm capable of it but I don't have any ideas rn as I did just start the book lol so hmu plz like rlly plz
