Pythor's hands dashed over the books on his desk, "Each Fangblade showed an exact location except the Venomari one. Who would expect that there was a whole bloody mine system under that small village? Coal and sulfur still burning inside from an accident ages ago. Doesn't seem to bother the residents, and it's deep enough not to. But, like most things, it throws a kink in our plans. We've got fire on both sides, with the lava high enough in the fire temple we couldn't even dream of having that one yet. We're playing a game to fully test our patiences."

"At least that means the ninja can't get to them, either," you shrugged, flipping through a book about an Anacondrai that drew her power from the moon, shoulders and head on one part of his tail, legs slung over another.

He tilted his head, "I'm telling you things you already know, aren't I? You spy on us with Junior?"

You shrunk into your shoulders a little, "Yeah."

He sighed and rolled his eyes, a slight smirk on his lips.

He'd been busy in the week or so after the Bladecup competition, attention constantly focused on reports from the groups in the mines and the more boring political stuff that came from his position, so it was nice when you actually got to talk to him personally, as selfish as that was.

An audible booming knock came from the other room, Bruno announcing his arrival in a similar manner.

You got out of Pythor's coils as he slithered out towards the door.

"The Constrictai have just located the Anacondrai village of Schlange. We wanted to inform you first but word travels too fast, especially with modern technology. It was buried under a section of Echo Canyon, just like you said, the entrances collapsed just like the capitol city," Bruno looked saddened, rolling his shoulders.

"Any signs of life?" Pythor's voice was straight, but his eyes betrayed his timid hope.

"No," Bruno said plainly, "They searched the whole thing, the settlement is not very big, and found only . . . skeletons."

Pythor nodded, cutting his eyes to you as you walked up beside him.

"Skales wanted to go, but if you would prefer not to there's nothing wrong with that-"

"Do you not think I've seen enough corpses? Yes, I would like to see the village," Pythor slithered forward, "Can you get my bags, my love?"

"Yes," you nodded, turning back into his room. When you came back, Bruno was gone, the blazing sun dancing across the rooftops of Ouroboros and glittering in Pythor's eyes that were lost in another place.

"Are you ok, Pythor?" You asked, squeezing his hand.

He snapped out of it, "Yes, yes, dear, I'm fine."

His hand slipped out of yours as he took one of his bags from you. You followed him out of his room, grabbing your satchel as you went. You instinctively pulled your scarf over your face as you traversed the palace to the hangars. Your helicopter's company included Skales, Selma, Junior, and the Fangpyre Twins, with the Constrictai boarding another copter.

The Sea of Sand really took to its name with you being above it, the golden plains rolled like some great ocean into the horizon, the sun blazing off of it in vicious glints.

"Are you keeping up with your Fangblade?" Pythor looked at Skales.

"You don't harrass Skalidor about his, it's almost like you think I'm irresponsible or something," Skales crossed his arms.
