Sirius' PoV
could I really blame her?
yes, I could. I knew she felt something. I knew it, and she was lying to herself.
Should I really blame her?
yes, she shattered my heart.
I laid it out there, had been so vulnerable, and she had taken a beater's bat to it.
But at the same time, I couldn't blame her.
I was--in her eyes--the boy who asked her best friend out on a dare, just to break her heart and make her hate her for the next several months.
I was the boy who in fifth year had a running tally of how many girls he could snog that year.
I was the boy who didn't have feelings to be vulnerable about.
But I was also the boy who had shown up at her house to see how she was.
I had grown up, she could trust me.
"Sirius dear, hurry up now, onto the platform," said Euphemia, pulling me from my thoughts.
I straightened up and pushed my trolly purposefully through the barrier into the hustle and bustle of the busy platform. I followed James through the crowd and onto the express, putting our trunks into our compartment.
We stepped back outside to say goodbye to Euphemia one last time.
She hugged James first, then me, holding me at arms length for a moment before letting go.
"Be good boys," she said firmly, but with a twinkle in her eyes. She sighed affectionaly, brushing the head boy badge on James's shirt. She hugged us both once more as we promised we would do our best to make her proud, then stepped onto the train as she called out: "and you boys better write me!"Mars and Marlene walked passed my compartment, Marlene waved and pointed, saying something, but Mars seemed to not have heard as she kept walking. I wondered if she had told Marlene. I hadn't told anyone--even James. I had refused point blank to answer where I had been, resulting in a threat of veritaserum, which was never actually carried out.
I got up and wandered off to find the trolley witch, only to run into Mars who was talking to a ravenclaw boy.
She turned to see me, something like anguish flashing in her eyes.
"Hey Sirius," she choked.
I stood frozen in my tracks before nodding and turning on my heel and heading back to my compartment.
Oh boy, this was going to be an interesting year.
