Chapter 4:
You were pulled from your thoughts as oswald walked back into the dining room, plates of food in hand.
He set one down in front of you and you stared at it in awe. It felt as though this was the first food you'd ever seen.
He sat across from you and smiled, digging into his own food.
"Well, don't just stare at it" he chucked lightly and you blushed out of embarrassment.
That was soon replaced by ravishing hunger as you picked up your fork and practically dove into the food head first.
Mashed potatoes with a fresh cooked Burger was the most delicious thing you'd ever had.
You finished the dish in a matter of seconds and you pat your stomach, sitting back in your chair.
You looked up as oswald, who was staring at you while chewing his Burger.
"What?" You raised an eyebrow.
He quickly averted his gaze and let out a small laugh.
"Nothing, you just eat fast."
You rolled your eyes and looked down, not feeling full at all. In fact, it still felt like you hadn't eaten in days. You decided to wait a few minutes for the food to settle and looked back as oswald.
"So.." He started, barely even three bites into his meal.
"What do you plan to do?"
You looked down at your hands, playing with the strings on your Sweat pants.
"I'm... Not sure. I still don't remember anything.."
He looked at you inquisitively.
"You could stay here." He stated, unfazed.
You looked up with big eyes.
"Really? But you barely know me.." You said quietly, not really wanting him to take back his decision.
He smiled and took another bite of his food.
"Yes well, I'd feel bad if I just threw you out on the street. Gotham is a very dangerous place after all." He grinned.
You laughed as you remembered how he tried to kill you a few minutes ago. Now he was making jokes about it.
You felt like you should be offended or angry. But instead you felt happy. It'd lifted the mood a bit.
"Yeah.. Well, thank you." You smiled across the table at him.
Just then, your stomach grumbled, the intense hunger coming back.
He looked at you, surprised.
"Still hungry?" He asked. You nodded and he motioned for Ida to get you more food.
"You have quite the appetite." He joked and got up as he finished his meal.
You nodded and blushed a bit.
"I hope you don't mind, but I have to excuse myself. I have another meeting to attend. But Ida will take care of you, and when I get back we can work on restoring your memory alright?" He smiled and pulled on his coat.
"Okay. " you nodded and smiled back, staying in your chair as oswald left with one of his body guards. He flashed you one last kind look before disappearing through the door, leaving you alone.
For an hour, you sat alone, staring blankly at the chandelier and fiddling with the salt shaker.
It was so unnerving.. Just to be dropped in someones house with no memory of who you are.
[How did I get here in the first place?!]
You still weren't completely sure that oswald hadn't kidnapped you and was just lying about it. But, you had no other choice but to trust him right now.
When you had more information, you'd try and figure everything out. But for now, you had to focus on remembering.
You glared intently at the glass, brow slightly furrowing.
"Come on (Y/n)." You said in a low voice as you continued to stare. You strained yourself trying to think, so much so that your brain started to hurt.
"Come on... Think!" You closed your eyes tight, desperately trying to grasp something, anything that would link the broken parts of your mind together.
"Come on!" You slammed your fist on the table, frustrated.
"Damnit, nothing..." You growled and sighed, laying your head down on the table in defeat.
Just then, you heard footsteps approaching.
"You're still at the table?" Oswald looked at you worriedly. You didn't move your head from the table and groaned.
"I can't remember anything" you said in a sad and passed voice.
He smiled and limped up to the chair. He sat down next to you and put a hand on your shoulder carefully.
"It's alright (Y/n)." He said sweetly.
You groaned and flipped your head around so you could sew him.
"It's not okay.. I don't know who I am! I don't know how I got here! I don't know anything..." You felt a small tear escape and trail down your cheek. The smile faded from his lips, replaced by an expression of sadness, worry.
He took his hand away, placing it back on his umbrella. "I know it must be hard... I can not even begin to imagine how you must feel" he said, lifting up your chin gently.
You looked into his eyes, a great sense of empathy overwhelming you.
"I know it seems hopeless right now but..."
A smile started to perk up his lips again.
"I have a plan."
