"I have to go." Phoenix groaned, he tried to move Arabella's body which clung to him tightly. After finding a lead about the missing wolves in the camp Phoenix decided he and a small team would go and get them out.
"Why? You can send 10 of your strongest men!" Arabella whined, she sat on his lap, her legs wrapped around his waist, arms around his neck trying to stop him from getting to his bag. Ever since they had rekindled their relationship after their last argument, both Phoenix and Arabella had been more tactile and open with each other in the hopes of preventing a repeat occurrence of the aforementioned argument. "You already thought of the strategy, you don't absolutely need to be there do you?"
"Belle please," he sighed. Arabella pouted, moving away from him to sit on the other side of the bed, nursing the rejection. Even though she knew he wasn't rejecting her, it still hurt. She was trying to be rational, but she rationally couldn't understand why Phoenix had to go.
She hated being away from him, and though it had been weeks since their argument in the office, she still felt as though they were just returning to normal. She would miss him, and she couldn't sleep without him. It was selfish, perhaps, but she didn't know how she was going to cope. Sniffing sadly, she hid her face as tears began to stream down her face.
There was another part of her that thought she was just being pathetic. Crying because her significant other was leaving her for a little while? She had spent years of her life alone, what was another week? But even as she tried to argue with herself, she knew that it wasn't the same.
It was okay that she would miss Phoenix, and that she would find it hard to be away from him, because he brought her joy, comfort and companionship. Even with him gone she wouldn't be alone, and even if she was, she didn't need Phoenix to function. She was allowed to hurt, and she did because even if she didn't need him, it didn't change the fact that she wanted him.
Phoenix, concerned by her sudden quietness and sensing her upset, moved around the bed to stand in front of her small frame. He pulled her body closer, hugging her to him in a display of comfort and love. "I'll be back in a week, I promise."
"Please don't leave me. I don't want you to get hurt!" She bawled, startling Phoenix. He hadn't thought that she would be so upset, they had talked about it and she seemed alright with it a few days ago. Perhaps she was just upset and nervous now that the day had finally come.
"Love, I promise I'll be fine." He put his hands on either side of her body, slowly rubbing her thighs.
"You don't know that! You could get hurt or worse die!" She sobbed and blubbered. With the thought put into her head, she couldn't shake it off; all she could think of were all the terrible things that might happen if he went. "Then the pack won't have an Alpha and I'll be a widow and we're not even married!"
Phoenix didn't know what to say or do, all he knew was that he needed to comfort his mate. He dried her tears, leaning down and pecking her lips sweetly until she had calmed down.
"You said it yourself, I'll have some of my best men with me. Trust me." He cupped her face between his palms, his grey eyes pouring every drop of his attention onto her. "I promise you my love, I will come back, alive and well in one piece."
He kissed her again; slow and deep with all the feeling he could. His tongue caressed hers with a gentle pressure that had Arabella feeling drunk on the feeling of him, of his touch.
His kiss turned more demanding, the sensual languid devotion left behind for a far more salacious encounter. Arabella didn't protest pulling him closer until she was laying on the bed with Phoenix on top of her.
