"It is necessary for everyone to stay inside tonight and just wait for this uncontrollable, unimaginable event to subside!" The news reporter shouted as if he couldn't express his advisement enough before the channel lost its connection and lines of all colors striped the screen. Phil could see the blinding beams of icy blue shooting out from menacing UFOs hovering over his city. His mother quickly slammed the curtains shut just as Phil saw a passerby levitating into the air, as if being carried up by those dangerous, sapphire projections. He sat criss-crossed on his living room carpet, facing the television that no longer had a sweaty man in a business suit frantically commanding his viewers to stay safe.

The young man just coming home from college for the holidays, didn't quite know how to handle the events currently taking place in his childhood town, probably still believing that all of this was just some sort of crazy dream. "EVERYONE GET IN THE BASEMENT RIGHT NOW!" His mother ordered as she shakily pointed towards the basement door that stood beside the entrance to the kitchen. Phil complied and stood to his feet along with his other relatives, passing the Christmas dinner still barely eaten on the table.

"What a waste." his grandfather grumbled as he took the fist step down to the bottom level of their quaint home. His grandmother followed hastily, then came his cousins, next his aunt and uncle, and finally his brother. Phil guided everyone into the basement, standing at the top of the staircase making sure all his loved ones reached safety first. It was only him and his mom left to go and just as he was about to help his quivering parent step down, he heard a familiar yelp coming from outside. Phil instinctively glanced at the back door and noticed his pet dog, Susan, trembling in the center of their garden, a cobalt illumination shining down on her plump, little body.

"Wait, mum, the dog!" Phil exclaimed as he dashed to his beloved pet without even thinking. He could barely hear his mother's protests over the blaring noise of the flying spacecraft above him. Phil leaped to grab his pet, the wobbling dog probably on the verge of a heart attack as she buried herself in her owner's arms. "There, there, Susan. You're okay now." he mumbled comfortingly as he applied ginger strokes to her brown, spotted back. Right when Phil began to scurry back inside he noticed he suddenly appeared taller than his surroundings. The grass seemed farther down and so did his shrieking mother. He began to run but he wasn't getting any closer to the door. It was as if he was treading air. His breathing began to stagger, his surroundings became colder, and suddenly oxygen was harder to inhale. This is all a dream, this is all a dream, he chanted in his head despite the fact that he knew exactly what was happening to him was the reality of the situation.

"PHIL, COME DOWN, PHIL NO!" His mum cried, reaching out a hand to her son that was already too far gone. Phil threw his dog onto the rusted trampoline once he reached just above it as he yelled back to his mom.

"Don't forget to feed her, mum! I love you!" were his last words before he found himself belly up, facing a circular door sliding open and welcoming him.

"Experiment 3-14? Excuse me, Experiment 3-14?" Phil woke up to a timid voice sounding throughout a metallic room. His eyes were slightly ajar as he struggled to get accustomed to the amount of light there was in the compact space. Bewilderment and fear fluttered around his mind as he sat up on a hard bed. There was a bench parallel to the bed, and what appeared to be a bathroom in the far left corner. Phil looked down at himself only to find that the clothes he had on before were replaced by colorless, mesh fabric attire, like the ones they'd make you wear at a hospital. He wore a pair of pants that had no zipper or buttons, just a scrunchy elastic within the top hem. His bottoms were accompanied by a pastel gray t-shirt with a pocket on the right side. How did he get into these clothes? Someone undoubtedly had to have taken off his clothes and put these ones on. He couldn't help but feel slightly embarrassed but his prominent feeling was pure, unadulterated fear.
