"I knew you'd come," Loki chuckled as he approached her, watching the shock on her face as she snapped out of her concentration upon hearing his footsteps. It was past midnight, and she lay on her stomach beside the Bifrost Markings, scribbling notes into her notebook. Her astonishment quickly shifted to irritation.

"Are you serious?"

He could see the annoyance etched across her features as she rose, crossing her arms defiantly. "Don't you have something better to do? Like spending time with your family, feeding your cats, or maybe even sleeping?" While she didn't want to be rude, the question of why he was spying on her loomed large. If she weren't concerned about being arrested for trespassing, she might have called the police on him.

Loki couldn't contain his laughter. "I could ask you the same thing." She dared to speak to him like that, even though she was the one trespassing. Shaking his head in amusement, he met her gaze. "But honestly, you're a terrible liar. Next time you plan to sneak out at night, let your friends do the talking. I might have believed them."

Jane stared at him, taken aback. Had he just mocked her? Again? She sighed, deciding against starting a fight. "I know. I've always been."

"So what exactly are you doing here?" His eyes sparkled as he glanced at the symbols etched into the ground. "This seems far more significant than just taking pictures."

Rolling her eyes, Jane knew she needed to make him understand if she wanted to continue her work here. "I'm a scientist," she explained. "I want to investigate these markings." She gestured toward the circle on the ground. "My equipment is reacting to them, and I want to know why."

"Ah," Loki nodded, intrigued. "So what do you hope to discover?"

"What or who created these markings and whether they originated from Earth," she replied.

"So you suspect it might be aliens?" He couldn't help but chuckle at the word, having overheard it in passing conversations about life beyond their world.

"Not like E.T. or anything," she clarified. "But I refuse to believe we're the only living beings in the universe. It's far too vast for that."

"E.T.?" Loki asked, genuinely confused.

"E.T., the Extra-Terrestrial," she explained. "You know, the movie?"

Loki shook his head, not wanting to delve into what a movie was, especially after the way she had looked at him when he mentioned it.

"Wow!" she exclaimed, her mouth slightly agape. "Have you been living on the moon or something?"

"Something like that," he replied, laughing as he settled onto the ground beside her. Jane followed his movement with a puzzled expression.

"What? Are you planning on standing there all night?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Aren't you going to kick me off your property?" she asked, still in disbelief.
