The next day, you woke up feeling an ever growing sentiment of dread. You couldn't pinpoint why, until you hazily remembered yesterday. God dammit, it frustrated you that someone would go so far as to hurt someone so innocent and dear to you. Why? Why would Natsuki's dad go to this length to try and get her back, just to cause her more misery? Did he get some kind of sick kick out of hitting her? Or was he just so misconstrued in the mind that even he didn't know why? It just didn't make sense.
"Hey, you feeling okay?" Natsuki calls from across the kitchen, noticing your dazed stare.
"Oh, yeah. I'm fine." You reply back, taking another spoonful of your breakfast.
"You... don't look fine, (y/n)." She says, worry crossing her face. Were you really this bad at lying to your girlfriend?
"I-I don't...? Well, shit then."
"(y/n)..." Natsuki crosses her arms.
"Fine, you got me." Natsuki emits an understanding giggle. "I'm worried about you. Why would your dad go to such a length to take you back considering he hated you? It's just... eerie that someone would try so hard just to cause someone harm for the sake of it." You say, Natsuki feels a cold shiver run down her spine at the mention of her father.
"Well..." Natsuki draws out a long sigh.
"...There are some sick people in this world, people who do bad things, some of them know it's wrong and continue to do it for personal gain."
She takes in another breath, releasing it in cold stutters.
"...And then, there's people who don't even know what they're doing is wrong. As in, they haven't been taught bad from good. People usually blame the parents, but there's definitely something wrong... on a fundamental level to the point where seemingly basic things like 'don't hurt people' are alien to them. You get what I'm saying?"
"Y-Yeah.." You hide your inner surprise at Natsuki's sudden display of understanding.
"Alright, good!" Natsuki returns to her usual self, getting back to what they were doing.
...
At school, the literature club. Same old routine that you've grown to enjoy on a personal level. You show around your poem you wrote prior, nothing too special, just something to get you through the day.
Natsuki excitedly bounces over to you, holding a piece of paper in her hand. "I think you'll like this one!" She tilts her head, an express of glee spreading over her warm face.
You read it over.
"N-Natsuk-ki...?" You ask, a sinister feeling overwhelming rational thinking.
"Yeah?" She asks, her smile not wavering.
"Why is it just the word...'help'?"
"H-Huh?" Natsuki asks, obviously confused.
"It's normal for me..." She adds, flipping it around for you to see again.
It's... Normal?
"O-Oh.." You rub your eyes. "That was... Weird."
"It's fine, you're probably just not getting enough sleep." Natsuki replies, her warm expression returning, as she turns around to leave, the motion lifts her skirt up and you can almost see her... Wait, why the fuck were you having lewd thoughts now of all times?
Anyway, you knew something was off...
But why?
