Have you ever felt that dark and cold emptiness, or have you ever woken up staring into a strangers' eyes before? Every time I awaken I see him, see him fixing my broken parts. Though no matter how hard he tries he will never truly be able to put back together my broken pieces. Something he doesn't know is that I do have emotions, and at times I think to myself that I have too many emotions to even handle.
The year is 2018, the year where things are going to change soon, very soon. I am one of many projects that are being fixed and improved so that one day we will be out and about, roaming the world. But not for me. Harry or Harrison wants to keep me for something else. Something that I haven't quite figured out yet. He keeps to himself mostly, and only goes near me when I'm broken or when he and I train. Almost every month he has a new improvement for me, like a new arm or things like that. I watch him detach the old and outdated piece, and every time he does this he always has that certain spark in his eyes. The kind of spark that makes you look like an excited child. His icy blue eyes dance around like this for an hour.
After it's over though is when I feel afraid of him. He never lets me leave my sleeping pod unless it's for training purposes. Sure he and I talk every few minutes, but it's only to make sure that his precious project isn't broken. This is my routine almost everyday. It's all I really know anyways. Sometimes I see him in his office when I'm running or doing hurdles. When I look at him I realize how young he is, though he looks weathered with age. And some days I feel a tingle deep in my circuits. Maybe it's his bold jawline or his fawn brown hair. Each time I stare at him for this long he always catches my eyes and immediately looks away.
Even though he does keep me locked away I still care for him, and I still try to make him happy. Now I'm sitting in my sleeping pod with UV lights surrounding me. Harry is across the lab writing quickly on his sacred black clipboard. He doesn't even bother to stare up or even say a simple "hello, I actually notice you!" But this is normal, and I try to start up a conversation with him, "Umm Harry whatcha doin there," I said in my metallic voice. Harry looked like he was in a daze until he finally cleared his throat and said, "Somethin wrong?" Wow, see what I mean? All he cares about is his precious masterpiece. "Uh no, I uh just wanted to say hi!"
"Mmm oh well hi I guess." Rolling my eyes at him wasn't something new to me. I even learned to eye-roll the first time I was activated. "Harry-"
"Don't call me that, it's Harrison to you."
"Fine then, Harrison, what are you even writing on that thing, I thought you said you already finished the report for my training today." He sighed and ruffled his hair slightly. "I did but this is just for some...personal research. And also shouldn't you be recharging? The next test is going to be for cardio." Cardio was always my least favorite, he would always push me too much and I would always leave the indoor track room with some loose bolts. "Can't we just test out my waterproof ability? You said earlier that you were playing around with some waterproof material for me." At this point I had my bare metal hands up to the glass. "Exactly, playing around with it. If anything were to happen to you then that would mean I would have to start over from scratch, and I've spent too much time on you to let it go all to waste!" He was angry, he was always angry. Whether it be at me or just anything in general. "Alright, alright calm yourself, you'll mess up your hair with that attitude. Also can you let me out of here, It's getting a bit moist." A look of panic washed across his face and he seemed to run on air as he came to open the door. I jumped down the small drop and gave him a wide grin. "Thanks Harry!"
"Ya know if you weren't so important I would have ripped out your circuits by now and just be done with you."
"Hmph, well go ahead, there's nothing for me here anyways."
"You're my key to getting famous and the reason I spend all of my days stuck in this place! You're just a robot why am I getting so worked up about this?" Anger boiled deep down inside of me. "That's all I am to you! Just your way to getting rich! Just you're dumb test run!"
