(Missi's POV)

I cleaned up the breakfast dishes after Shannon went to work and then started writing. I reached in the fridge for an iced tea but there weren't any. I really didn't want to go grocery shopping, but I was out of practically everything. After I got what I needed I meandered around the store for a while.

There was a piece of paper on my windshield when I returned to the car. I thought it was a flyer and put it on the passenger seat and read it after loading the groceries.

'He's not yours bitch. Walk away or get hurt.' the note read. I tried to appear unaffected, wondering if whoever did this was watching.

'Hey babe what's up?' Shannon asked when I called him.

'I'm at the grocery store and there's a note on my car.' I said shakily.

'What does it say?' He asked, and I told him.

'Don't panic Miss. Whoever did it may have seen you get out of your car and just wants to mess with you. Make sure no one follows you and if they do then just keep driving until you lose them. If you have any problems call me.'

'Okay'

'Be careful and call me when you get home.'

I watched to see if anyone was following as I pulled out, but a lot of people were leaving at the same time. I did notice that a black Escalade seemed intent on staying behind me as other vehicles jockeyed for position after I got on the highway. I sped up and passed a few cars to see what they'd do and a few seconds later they did the same. I tried telling myself this wasn't happening and hoped they wouldn't follow when I got off at my exit. Unfortunately they did and I knew it would be tricky trying to lose them beyond a certain point since I only knew one way home from there. I saw a police car, so I passed him going well over the speed limit and breathed a sigh of relief as he flipped his lights and siren on and followed me.

Luckily I'd gotten my Cali license not long after Shannon bought the car, but the registration wasn't in the glove box. When I told the officer I wasn't the owner and had no registration card, he had me wait in the backseat of the squad car while he ran the plate and then called Shannon.

'Mr. Leto this is Officer Wilson from the California Highway patrol. I have Melissa Campbell here. She claims she's your girlfriend and has your permission to drive this vehicle. Is that correct?'

'Yes sir. Yes, she's fine. She sped past me and that's why I pulled her over. I'm going to issue her a speeding ticket.' He said, and his response to Shannon indicated he'd been informed as to why I'd been speeding. 'Well no, she didn't tell me that. I'll discuss it with her and if I need anything more I'll give you a call back. Thank you.'

'Can you explain what happened before I pulled you over?' The officer asked as I got out of his vehicle.

'This is the note that was on the car when I came out of the store. I noticed a black Escalade following me shortly after I left there and got on the highway. I tried losing them but that wasn't working. When I saw you I decided to speed past so that you'd pull me over and they'd quit following me.'

'That does make a bit of a difference then. I'll file an incident report instead of issuing a speeding ticket. Did you happen to see their plate or remember anything that might make their vehicle more identifiable?'

'No sir I didn't.'

He wrote a report and gave me a warning for Shannon about the proof of registration.
