Fields of Clover

When people say the phrase 'working with the biggest oil company', what comes up in your mind? High salary? Fun work? Help the world to be better in terms of energy uses? Well, I gotta say that everything regarding Tagruato is a lie. Heck, my very profession itself might be a lie.

Out of all the lies that people were told about Tagruato, one of them is true; the attack. I'm afraid that we're running out of time.

I, who was sprinting towards the OIM's room, crashed my shoulder onto the room, forcing it to open. The inertia force brought me to his table. I tried to catch up my breath.

"What's the matter, miss?"

"Sir, I need you to call for help from the base immediately. We're running out of time! It could arrive any time now!"

"What are you talking about?"

"You guys knew what would happen, don't ya? Quit hiding things from us!"

"Miss, I assure you to sit down and calm yourself first"

I did as he told me to. I took a breath and then exhaled it.

"There was an attack at the Chuai Station. Did you know that?" I asked him, while looking into his eyes, in an attempt to detect any signs of lying from him.

"Yes" he replied calmly, which was unexpected.

"Have you asked for help?"

"Actually... I haven't..."

"It's coming towards us and you're doing nothing about it? Is this how an OIM should act during a crisis?"

"You don't understand, miss... But..."

"DON'T GIVE ME SHITTY EXCUSES! I'M SPREADING THE NEWS!"

I stood up and quickly went to the exit. My hand was held. I looked at him, who did so.

"We need to save everyone, Sir. And doing nothing isn't a way to do so"

"Miss Uziel, our base in New York has also been attacked. There's no backups left for us"

"What?"

"The monster has attacked what's left of civilization. There's no room for us, people stranded in the Atlantic Ocean to be rescued by survivors who barely could live any longer."

"So, we're all gonna die here? All of us?"

"I'm afraid that's the case"

A loud roar was suddenly heard. The roar which was exactly like the one in the video Mundy sent me earlier. The whole station was in silence, leaving only the roar to be the only sound over there. 

A tremor suddenly shook up the left part of the station. Everyone started screaming in panic.

"Let's go, Sir!" I said to him. He was in a state of daze.

"This...This is it..."

"Sir, let's go!"

"Go where, huh? Do we actually have anywhere to go?"

I looked out side and it seemed that everyone was scattering around the station, some even trying to jump off the rig, to go to a seemingly safer place; the sea. 

"We do have a life raft, don't we?" I reminded him.

The monster suddenly let out a louder roar. 

"It's too late for anything, Uziel!" he said, before running towards the edge, and then jumping off.

The monster appeared out of the blue, just at the edge where he jumped off. I could only see its piranha-like head from where I stand from. The rig tremored again, and this time, the impact caused the whole rig to collapse. The crane, which was exactly above me, fell down.

I, closed my eyes and imagined the faces of my whole family; Mom, Dad, Mundy and Daisy.
