Chapter 1

I opened my eyes to stare at the cream coloured ceiling. It was the second year of high school and I seriously couldn’t care less. I would get pushed into my locker, had my food knocked over and basically well, get bullied. But it wasn’t THAT bad. I mean I do have a best friend.  Her name’s Roselyn and she’s awesome. She’s smart, funny, weird, wacky, mad, amazing and just basically the best friend anyone could ever have. I’ve known her since I was 8. We went to the same foster home and now we’ve both been fostered and go to the same school. Some of the kids at our foster home weren’t so lucky. I bet if you went back you would still find some of them there.  Anyways, I swung my legs out of bed and hopped onto the floor. I could smell toast and coffee. I walked down the stairs slowly in my PJ’s and stepped into the kitchen.

“Morning honey!” said Helen my foster mum “did you sleep well darling? I hope you did cos it’s your first day of school today and you don’t want to go with bloodshot eyes do you?” she laughed like mad woman and turned to pour some coffee. I smiled at her. Sometimes she was the maddest and weirdest person on earth. But I loved her with all my heart because her and Roselyn were the only things closest to a family I had. And I didn’t take that for granted. When Roselyn wasn’t there Helen was my shoulder to cry on and the only person in the world who knew what being bullied was like. I know what you’re thinking: ‘why don’t they just report what’s going on and tell someone?’ well it’s not always that easy, I mean we have told the head teacher and the school councillor but nothing’s really been done, so we just leave it.

Helen put a huge stack of toast right in front of me and a large mug of coffee.

“Helen I told you, I don’t like coffee.”

“Fine suit yourself monkey chum, I’ll have it.” She grinned and I stuck my tongue out at her.

“So what time do you start school this year?” she asked with a mouth full of toast.

“Same as usual.” I replied.

“Well then you better hurry up you have to leave in 20 minutes.”

“Oh yeah”

I rushed back up the stairs and took a quick shower. I got out, brushed my teeth and hair and got dressed. I decided not to make a big thing about the first day of school so I went with a blue tank top, a pair of jeans and my leather jacket. I put on my trainers, grabbed my school bag and left the house. I picked a daffodil and placed it behind my ear. My brown shoulder length hair made my face look kinda cute and the daffodil added a bit of sunshine to my expression. I smiled to myself and started my walk to school.
