The series of events that followed the kiss, were as predictable as it could get. My darling boyfriend — or rather, man-friend had knocked the mere high school boy down, with a couple smacks across his spaghetti-garnished face, while the rest of my friends were busy videotaping it.

I did attempt to stop Luke, from creating a scene, but to no avail. The party continued, and Luke and I, eventually ended up arguing in the kitchen, while my father watched, while simultaneously munching on a plate of nachos.

"For the hundredth time, Luke, it was a part of the game!" I hollered, attempting to be audible, over the booming music.

"Well, he didn't look like he was playing," Luke seethed, in response, both of us burning holes through each other's craniums.

"I don't mean to interrupt, but.." My father's tone barged in, on us, as he squeezed himself in between us, to get to the refrigerator, behind. Taking a couple cans of diet soda out, he flashed us a tight smile, before backing away. "No, no, no. Carry on, carry on. Don't mind me."

"Aren't you gonna say anything, uncle Flynn?" Luke threw his hands in the air, in exasperation, his knitted brows suggesting that he was in desperate need of assistance.

"Ah, geez. I don't know.. Should I?" Dad responded with a question, lifting his shoulders into a shrug.

"Duh?"

"Oh, no, dad. You're not gonna take his side, are you?" I glared, earning a nervous chuckle, in response.

"Of course not, Blue. But... can't we just enjoy the party for the time being? I mean, I spent the entire day planning it, and here you are, acting like little kindergarten tots."

"So, you're worried about the party? Some oversexed monkey kissed your daughter, and you're not even bothered?"

"Er, technically, she's being shagged by a man twice her age, on a regular basis, so.. I don't know. Should I be?"

Luke's jaw flung open.

"You're being a little dramatic, mate," he added, shrugging, once again. "And close your mouth, please. It's making me feel a little uncomfortable."

And the very next moment, the orthodontist raged out of the scene — then, out of the main door, shoving Calum, who stood next to the doorframe, holding a cotton to his bleeding nose, once again, leaving me dumbfounded.

"It's not the best time to say, 'I told you so', is it?" My father spoke, in a lowered tone.

I deadpanned, crossing my arms over my chest, and refraining myself from breaking down into tears.

"Right." He stretched his lips to a thin line, taking a few steps backwards, before carefully slithering away.

As I sprinted to my room, I didn't notice my father sneaking out of the door, straight to his vehicle, and driving off.

What I had no clue about, was him driving around few blocks, and halting next to a little playground, next to which, Luke's car was parked.

"You could've just visited me, later, you know. What if she followed you?" The blond questioned, as my father stepped out of the vehicle.

"I don't think she did," he answered, stationing a hand on Luke's shoulder. "Geez, I feel like a villain."

"Hey, what did I tell you? It was for her wellbeing. Don't feel that way, uncle Flynn. If I were you, I would've done the same," Luke responded, a tight smile resting on the bow of his lips.

"It's just that, Luke, I can't watch her mourn. I'm not sure if I can console her. These are the times, I wish her mother was around to help out."

"I get what you're saying, uncle Flynn. This—" Luke paused, reaching for his dashboard, and lifting a book off it, before handing it over to the older man. "Might help."

It was some sort of a parenting guide.

"Really, mate?"

"No, seriously. It's helpful. You can lift off lines, and such, while consoling her. I know how you feel about my idea, but I'm pretty sure neither of us want her to be one of those teenagers, who drop out of school, get married, and then lead a miserable life, later on." Luke unlocked the door of his vehicle, intending to step inside. "Besides, like we discussed — if she makes it through this stage, I'll ask her out, again. I can wait."

"Right, of course. But if things get out of hand, you, mister, you have to explain your little experiment — or whatever you're calling it to her," My father replied, his fingers fidgeting with the edge of the book. "Remember, it was your idea."

"Yes, yes, uncle Flynn. Point made!" Holding his forefinger in the air for a second or two, he seated himself inside the car, driving away shortly after.

I spent the rest of my birthday — and the next two days weeping, while my father had to take a leave, on the fourth day, to console me, and prevent me from crying my way into a seizure.

I hadn't received a single message, or a call from Luke since the party, and my inflated ego kept me from contacting him, first.

Little did I know, that it was a part of his elaborate plan. That every event in the party, was a set-up — including the part where Calum kissed me, and he knocked the boy down. Every second, every moment, was planned.

After Luke left our house, earlier, in the morning of my birthday, his mind dwelled on my father's speech. Of course, being a grown-up man, he understood the complications that might serve as hurdles in the future, and came up with the brilliant, yet literally heart-breaking plan.

Luke wasn't oblivious to the fact that I once had a crush on Calum, who in turn, reciprocated my feelings to some extent. So, he took the courtesy of tracking the chap down, and then making a deal with him. He had to spend a few bills, whilst trying to get the teenager to agree, but in the end — it worked, perfectly.

He then narrated the plan to my father, explained him his part of the script, and executed the act — and all this while, I was oblivious to everything.

It was a wise decision on Luke's part, because both of us knew how serious our relationship had gotten, over the months. If we were to take it to the next level, I'd have to put my future at stake. I was incapable of living on my own — I hadn't even graduated high school. Luke knew about my sky-high ambitions and dreams, and he'd be the last one, to ravage them.

But the good ol' me, was unaware of the above. I spent the next two weeks, walking around like a ghost.

In school, Calum paid more attention to me, than ever, in his life, and my friends assumed that my chapter with Luke, had ended.

However, they were wrong, because exactly two weeks, and three days after the incident, I turned a deaf ear to my father's pleas, stomped over my ego, and showed up at Luke's clinic.

I had to wait, for a long, long time, for the crowd to clear out, and when I was the only one left in the waiting room, Fernanda — the assistant, finally stepped out of the office, with a rather awkward smile on her face.

"Dr. Hemmings wants you."

Does he?
