Darkness.

The edges of my vision slowly started to lighten.

“Hey,” a whisper by my ear.

I smiled before groaning and blinking a couple of times. I found myself staring at a boy my age, Felix.

He smiled, pulling me up so we were both standing. I looked around us and saw that the sky was dark, and there was a big purple colored tent beside us.

“Where’s Lily?” I asked, eyeing the tent. It was decorated with silver and gold thread that weaved in and out of the purple material.

His smile dropped, “She’s hiding somewhere here, I think.”

“We should look for her.”

He shook his head sadly, “No, she needs some time alone.”

“You sure?”

“Yeah, she’s still upset about…that.”

I just nodded, trying not to show that I was worried.

He took my hand in his and tugged me gently towards him. I looked up at him as he caressed my cheek softly, before gently kissing my lips. I felt my face flush as he pulled back and smiled at me again, and I looked away slowly.

“Do you want to go in?” He asked, nodding his head in the direction of the tent.

“Why not, it’s here for a reason right?”

We walked around the tent, looking for the entrance. We found a flap that was wide open, and I could see the lights and hear the music that was coming from inside. Felix reached out and pulled at the flap so that I could walk in.

“After you,” he said.

I smiled and ducked inside.

It was huge, that was for sure.

I don’t think I’ve ever been inside a tent this big before in my life. I mean, sure, I’ve been to one or two circuses. But they were never this big. Or this beautiful for that matter.

All around the walls of the tent were chairs. From the ground to the very top, and each column had a set of stairs that looked new and polished. The chairs faced the biggest ring-shaped stage I’ve ever seen. I had to crane my neck to see the top of the tent, and even as I did, it still wasn’t clear where the exact tip was.

Hanging from the top and around the ring were thick ropes. Some were the typical brownish color, others ranged from all the colors of the rainbow. I spotted a few ropes that went from across the tent, I guessed those were used for tight rope dances.

I felt a warm hand at my wrist and Felix led me to one of the many seats. We picked our chairs in the middle, and snuggled to get comfortable.

“How do you think this’ll work?” He asked.

I frowned, “What do you mean?”

“Kat, other than Lily, you’re the only actual human I’ve ever seen here.”

I thought about it. He was right. I still didn’t understand how the whole process of this dream thing worked. But from what I understood, Lily, Felix, and I were the only ones here. Wherever that was. It was all too confusing to think about it.

“Maybe they won’t be humans”, I finally said, after I realized he was talkign about the circus.

“Maybe,” was his only reply.
