Scott's skin was flushed pink and he was staring at the floor, obviously embarrassed by being caught, but it wasn't like they were having sex on the counter. They have cuddled plenty in front of their parents, what made this one different for Scott?
Mitch turned to the pancakes and picked up the discarded spatula, pouring some batter into the pan. He was a little disappointed when Scott didn't say anything. He just listened to the taller man set the table as he finished the pancakes.

"So, Scott, tell us a little about how you and Mitch decided to be together." Mitch looked up at Rick then over to Scott. Yeah, how did we decide to be together? He was sure Scott could read his mind as a look was shot his way.
Scott cleared his throat and put down his fork. "Well, it's kinda boring, a little sweet." Another glance in Mitch's direction. "We were just having a wine night like we sometimes do and were sitting out on the balcony. Mitch was telling me about a boy he had met that started out nice, but not long into their relationship really became an asshole. He was upset that that was the only kind of person he seemed to attract." Scott swallowed. Mitch's eyebrows raised in surprise, considering the beginning of this story was actually true, he expected some sappy story to make his mom happy. "I really didn't know what to say at first, I just let him vent to me." Scott seemed to be getting nervous and looked down at his lap. "We actually went to bed without really talking about it and I really regretted not just telling him how I felt that night, that he attracts everyone, including me, that's just his personality. I didn't sleep for like the next three nights, too occupied with what Mitch thought of himself and I just couldn't have it anymore. I finally just went up to him when he was walking through the house and just kissed him." Scott's eyes met Mitch's and his heart was pumping wild. "I just said, Mitch, you attract everybody, even me, and he smiled." Scott snapped out of the trance Mitch's eyes had him in and glanced around at the other people at the table. "And yadda-yadda we're together."
Mitch's jaw was practically on the floor. That conversation actually happened, except without the declaration. Even the part about Scott not knowing what to say, he admitted that when letting him vent. Is this what Scott actually thought? What he really wanted to say to him? Do to him? Or was Scott just a really good story-teller? Mitch's mouth snapped shut and he studied Scott's body language as his family cooed over their "love story". He was tense, probably worried he would get caught in a lie. He seemed unattached from the conversation, like he didn't want to be here at this moment. Like the faking was making him uncomfortable.
"Mitch?" His focus was broken by Connie calling his name.
"Yes? Sorry." His attention turned to the sweet woman.
"I was just asking if that is how you remembered it."
"Oh, um, yeah, mostly."
"What was different for you?"
Mitch had to really think about that for a second. "The kiss. Scott made it seem so nonchalant, but really, it was like finding the other half to your heart. Like it was just meant to be, you know?" He smiled at the shared looks between Connie and Rick.
Scott's hand found his thigh and he looked over, surprised to see a sweet smile on his lips, his apparent discomfort from earlier gone. Mitch couldn't help himself he leaned forward. Scott knowing exactly what was coming his way, leaned to meet Mitch halfway to accept the chaste kiss.

"I hope that story was okay, we are probably gonna have to tell it again to your parents, maybe even Kirstie and her mom." Mitch leaned against the bathroom door frame, watching as Scott packed up his suitcase in preparation for leaving to visit Mitch's parent's house in the morning.
