Chapter Twenty-Seven: Waking Up

Wake up.

Wake up.

I need to wake up.

They're waiting for me.

Wait, who is?

Who needs me?

Who loves me?

Can't I just sleep forever?

They don't need me.

They don't love me.

They-

"Ava."

Who's there?

"Ava."

Why are you calling out to me?

"Avangaline."

Why?

Why do you say my name like that, like I mean something to you?

Why do you say it like you need me?

Wait.

Who are you?

"Ava, please."

"Wake up."

*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*

Beep. Beep. Beep.

Dear lord! Someone please stop that annoying beeping.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.

Staahhpp please!

Slowly, I peeled open my eye lids. I popped open my left eye and tried to peek around the room, but the glare from the sun hit my eye and a roaring headache pounded my brain.

A groan escaped my lips as I reached up to clutch my head.

Suddenly, I felt as though something, or someone, was watching me and I opened my eyes.

The glare from the sun didn't hurt as much so I decided to look around.

I was surrounded by strangers.

Who were these people? My brows furrowed as I took in each of their appearances, hoping for a familiar face.

Two children, or preteens, stood to my right, a girl and a boy. The girl's hazel eyes were open with excitement and anticipation, while the boy's were open with fear and longing. The girl's brown hair was cut in a cute A-line kind of way and the boy's hair, although the same color, was shorter and sticking up all over the place making it seem as though he hasn't had a wink of sleep in years.

A woman and a man stood to my left. The woman's hair was black with dark brown highlights in it and her hazel eyes were wide with sadness and fear. The man next to her had dark brown hair that was beginning to grey. His eyes were staring at me with a look of love and relief.

I couldn't quite understand why they all looked at me like the way they were, did they know who I was? Should I know who they are?

"Ava," a voice croaked out from the doorway.

There stood a girl with hair almost the same color as mine and her brown eyes were wide with shock and relief. Tears swam in her eyes as she took in my appearance. A bouquet of pink roses sat in her grasp as she made her way over towards me.

"Ava," she cried out again, this time, setting the bouquet down and grabbing my left hand in hers.

"You're finally awake."

My brows furrowed as I took in all the people around me. Suddenly, the door burst open and a rush of people came into the room.

People ran to my side and began to gush about how I was finally awake and how I was doing.

My brain felt so jumbled as I took in everyone there, but there were too many people there that my brain couldn't even keep up.

"Guys!" A voice shouted, "Back away! Give the girl space!"

I turned my head to look at the boy who shouted. His black hair was spiked up and his light brown eyes were wide with amusement.

Once the words left his lips, everyone backed away from the bed, leaving about a few steps between us.

Everyone's eyes were on me, some were looking at me with excitement, some with love, some with relief and others with sadness.

But for some reason, I still couldn't figure out why.

Awkwardly, I let out a cough and suddenly, a cup of water appeared next to me. I followed the hand up towards the person's face and saw a guy who looked like the guy before that stopped all the racket. His black hair was also spiked, but this time, his eyes were shielded by a frame of black metal glasses.

I shot him a thankful smile and took the cup from him. The cold water slipped down my throat, leaving a satisfied feeling behind it. My throat cleared and felt nice and frosty from the drink. Goosebumps danced among my arms as I continued to gulp down the water.

When I was finished drinking, I gave the cup back.

I shot the guy a thankful smile.

He sent me a smile back and took the cup from my hands.

I shot everyone a hesitant look and looked back down at my hands.

"Yes?" The girl with brown hair from before asked.

"Who are you guys?"
