Something in his eyes flicker before a grin breaks out upon his lips. He chuckles, looking at the ground and shaking his head. Then he glances at me again. "You're so special to me, Dimples," he laughs out. "You're too smart for me."
I laugh a little. "Well I don't know about smart. I am dating you."
He scoffs and gives my shoulder the softest playful shove. I giggle at this, but then regain composure. I think about my words. Dating. Maybe that wasn't the best word to use. Does he even consider this as dating? Or because we are soulmates, he thinks of it as a loving obligation. Maybe he just is imaging that he is in love with me.
No, don't be ridiculous, Anna. You are crazy in love with him. You can't just imagine that. And he's made it pretty clear that he feels the same. Still, there's a huge gap of uncertainty in this whole relationship. I guess it's time for "the talk."
"What is it?" Aiden asks, noticing my pause in conversation.
I smile small. Not really smiling, but enough to prove I'm not hurt or anything. "Nothing. It's just...what exactly are we? The whole soulmates thing is so confusing. I don't know if that means we're just dating or if we're an official couple or what. I've never really dealt with relationships in general, so it's all kind of confu-"
"Dimples," Aiden says, raising a brow with a smirk. I stop, mouth slightly ajar as he interrupts me. "Follow me."
He waves to follow him before prying open the nearby brush of the trees we are currently standing next to. My eyes widen as I gaze upon the scene before us.
Aiden holds the branches open for me, and I quickly step into the encircled area as to not keep him standing there. He allows them to slap together again, completely hiding us from everything else.
I thought that Colorado was gorgeous. Like truly. But Aiden just doubled it in ways I would've never thought he could.
Standing before me is a simple blanket on the lusciously green grass. On it is cups of something steaming and these cute little sandwiches. There's a basket too. And get this: fireflies in jars are strung in most of the surrounding trees. How he managed to capture so many of them and when he managed to do so is beyond me.
It's just lit up entirely, and I can't help but smile in awe.
"How did you do all this?" I breathe, spinning around to look at all of the beauty.
My eyes finally land on him as he shrugs. "Dakota helped me while the other three of you were gone."
My grin enlarges when he tells me he'd been hanging out with Dakota. It's none of my business, so I won't ask, but I'm going to guess that they've at least sewed what was ripped. Maybe not healed all the way, but bandaged for the moment.
Aiden takes my hand and brings me over to the blanket, where we sit opposite each other. I grab the drink, curious as to what is inside. I take a hesitant sip, humming in approval when I taste the hot chocolate. It is chilly out, considering it's nighttime on a mountain. At least he had enough chivalry to make a contained and safe fire.
"So this should give you your answer," Aiden remarks after taking a sip of his coco.
I raise a brow, pausing when I am about to bite into my tiny sandwich. "Huh?"
He smiles, eyes twinkling at my childish stop. "That relationship shit you were talking about. This gives you your answer," He clarifies. "I care about you enough to do this. In fact, I care about you enough to do anything. I'm in love with you. I'm not very good at it, but I'm pretty sure this is what people consider 'boyfriend stuff.'"
I laugh and then reduce back to just a grin, nibbling on my lower lip. Aiden is my boyfriend. I'm Aiden's girlfriend. He didn't have to do a big ask or whatever, although I'm sure this would be the date that officially stamped it. I'm just happy that I can say he's mine without worrying about if it's okay to announce it that way.
"I'd say you're pretty good at it, ma dude."
He coughs on his drink, making a fist to pat his chest. He raises both of his eyebrows and bring the inner ends together at the top, staring at me incredulously. "You did not just friend zone your boyfriend by calling him 'dude.'"
I snort, picking up my tiny sandwich again. "If you can refer to yourself in third person, I can refer to you as dude."
And then I pop the littlest food into my mouth with a sarcastic, sweet smile cast his way.
