Kirigiri sat by herself in the dining hall, poking her food with her fork.

She was actually alone. No one else was in the hall that early in the morning, but Kirigiri couldn't help but stay awake after her last nightmare.

But of course, even though Naegi offered his help, she refused to show a weakness. Kirigiri knew very well that her problem would worry him, and that's the opposite of what she wanted.

Fortunately, the detective couldn't think of anyone else that'd decide to take a trip around the school at 3:30 in the morning except for Togami. But he'd probably just read a book, anyway in the library without bothering with others.

"What am I even doing?" Kirigiri asked herself.

Truth be told, she felt all kinds of emotions. Tired, annoyed, upset, angry... she wanted to sleep, cry, scream, throw something... anything at this point.

Yet here she was, poking a pear.

Kirigiri started mumbling to herself then. "I hate having nightmares... I hate being in this school... I want to go home..."

When she thought no one was with her in the dark room, a footstep was heard. With her sharp ears, the detective rose to her feet and spoke, "Who's there? If you're trying to kill me, I won't go down without a fight."

"A- Ah! G- G- Geez, I'm not t- trying to k- k- kill you or anyt- thing!"

Relief washed over Kirigiri as she recognized the voice. Not that she thought Fukawa didn't have the guts to kill, but the literary writer was... a bit weak. The detective could take her on with her eyes closed, really.

"My apologies. I didn't know you were here." She sat down, hint of worry coming back again. "How much did you hear?"

"I... n- not much... if you w- want me to g- go, then I'll j- just leave—"

"No, please. Feel free to stay. I wouldn't mind some company."

She wasn't lying. Her nightmare was truly scaring her, but having someone by her side was helping a bit.

Although she had to admit, Naegi would've been a better option. He knew how to comfort people.

"Oh... o- okay..." Fukawa hesitantly sat in front of Kirigiri, folding her hands in front of her. "S- So..."

"If you're not comfortable conversing, we don't have to."

"S- So we just sit in s- silence?" Fukawa looked mortified. "Who d- does that?"

"You'd be surprised." Kirigiri never lost her calm composure. To be honest, it make Fukawa feel very protected, especially at this moment. And especially considering the circumstances and where they were at the moment.

"F- Fine."

Kirigiri felt somewhat at ease. She at least had someone to talk to in the bad times.

She then smiled. "Thank you."

"What did I do?" Fukawa questioned.

"There's a first. You didn't stutter in your sentences."

"W- Well..." Fukawa groaned. "Ugh, I r- ruined it, d- didn't I?"

Kirigiri shook her head. "I promise you, you didn't ruin anything. I just wanted to thank you for actually staying. I don't think many people would've."

"I- It was by c- c- coincid- dence..." Even while saying this, the writer grinned a bit. "But I- I've had worse t- times..."

Kirigiri smiled wider at that—Fukawa was more than happy to be the one to see such a smile on her.

A/N: I AM SO SORRY I TOOK SO LONG TO MAKE THIS—!

I need to stop apologizing and get my actual shit together, whoops.

It's summer 2k18, I should be on 抖阴社区 more often, though [says another 257 times— also realizes that she'll be gone in two weeks FOR two weeks and BYE BYE JULY].

But I hope this chapter is satisfactory! Short, but cute, I think.
