Killian sat across from Peter, who had locked himself in the cage, and was now lying flat on his back on the couch, staring at the ceiling, and wallowing in a cloud of his own misery.
"I can't go out in daylight, Killian." He sighed. "I'm not even alive anymore."
"You sure talk an awful lot for someone who's dead." said Killian, absently sharpening his knife. "What's the difference anyway? Besides night-vision and super powers? I'd consider yourself lucky, so stop with all the self-pity, it's getting annoying."
Peter smiled at that. Killian certainly didn't have any pity for him anyway.
Peter smirked. "Jealous of my vampire-enhanced good looks?"
"You do know that no one is more dashing than I?" Killian said. Though he was glad that Peter was coming back to his own self. It took a while for Killian to get over the idea of him being a vampire too.
After the last few days, he doubted he will never be surprised again."You scared I'm going to bite you?" said Peter in a mock-high voice, one eyebrow raised.
"Dreadfully. I don't think you'll be able to resist me."
Killian put his hands behind his head, and leaned back in his chair in what was meant to be a seductive manner. "I do tend to have that affect on people."
Peter rolled his eyes. "Oh my G-- " He choked on the word. "Right, I'm damned. Can't say the word." He shot Killian a look. "Ok, let's get this clear. I'm not gay, Killian."
Now it was Killian's turn to smirk. "Oh, but I bet you wish you were.""Killian, slim it, or I'll jump out of this cage and kill you."
"You're a real pain in the neck."
Peter arched an eyebrow. "Seriously?" Then he frowned, and leaned his head back in mock dismay. "Oh no! Vampire jokes for the next six weeks."
He sat up. "I think I'm in hell already." Peter said dramatically.
"That's the right spot for you, then, bloody demon you are." said Killian. "Satan finally has some competition."
They laughed then. And it was the best that they'd felt in a long time.
"Right" said Killian once he had regained himself. "It's getting late, and I'm wrecked. I'd better get some sleep." He yawned. "Good night." And he headed off to bed.Peter, however, had now found out, that, rather than sleeping in coffins, he didn't have to sleep at all. Blood was now his only need.
He wandered down the hall, pausing to glance in the mirror at himself. His veins stood out against his porcelain skin. He had changed. The flaws he had were, gone. He wasn't human anymore. His skin was poreless, his lashes longer, his lips more crimson. He bared his fangs. Then, in the dark, he really did look like a vampire. He would always look this way. He would never age. Forever sixteen.
His brow furrowed. It was one thing being twenty five forever, but sixteen? He could never go into a tavern like this. Too gangly, too young. He could never get a proper job. He would have to keep moving, never staying in one area too long, else people would notice he wasn't ageing. And the blood...
No. Neverland was his only hope. He will get there. Somehow.
"I believe it." he said aloud. "I will find a way."
Then, his reflection disappeared. As if he were a ghost. He looked down at himself, confused. He was still the same. Must be a vampire thing.
He descended down the stairs, and found Rumple at his spinning wheel. Judging by the pile of golden straw at his feet, he had been spinning for some time. He didn't look up as Peter came in.As he came closer, he could hear that Rumple was talking, to no one in particular. It sounded like a poem.
"Time is very slow for those who wait." said Rumple.
"Very fast for those who are scared.
"Very long for those who lament.
"Very short for those who celebrate.
"But for those who love, time is eternal.""Why do you spin so much?" Peter asked, wandering over to the bookshelves.
Rumple looked up then, and stopped spinning.
"It helps me to forget.", he said sadly.
Peter frowned. "Forget what?"
Rumple looked blank, and blinked. "I guess it worked."
Peter chuckled.
Rumple stared into space. "She said the same thing."
