Leo's POV
Early during The Mark of Athena
Charlotte couldn't look me in the eyes for a while after I got us kicked out of Camp Jupiter, for shooting, again, at the side of their town.
She had recovered from her head injury -when she tried to stop me- but now she was injured all over again. She declined getting ambrosia from me and would only accept it from Piper.
After a while, I couldn't stand it anymore.
"Charlotte! Talk to me please!" I whined, flopping onto one of the chairs. She was at the end of the table, eating a banana from the newly added fruit bowl, reading a book.
She ignored me, flipping to the next page. She took another bite of the banana.
"Since you like fruit so much," I reached over the table and grabbed an apple "Catch this!"
She placed the book down and caught the apple, her eyes wide. "Well?"
"You really need to read more about Greek customs, Hot Stuff," she chuckled, nervously. "What are you talking about?"
"Oh, nothing! But... yes I will," she snickered. She walked over and booped my nose, then walked off, leaving me very confused and flustered.
The Next Day
I spent all night talking to Festus, looking for answers. He was obviously really smart, so he could help me.
He had told me what it meant with clicks and squeaks.
"OH MY GODS!" I shrieked. I covered my mouth, everyone was still asleep.
Let's just say Coach Hedge whacked me with his club, complaining about kids these days not knowing how to keep their mouth shut in the middle of the night.
At breakfast, Charlotte still wouldn't look at me. She would look up at me then back at her food, snickering. "Did something happen with you two?" Percy asked. "I'll say," Charlotte continued snickering.
Everyone, except Charlotte and myself, raised their eyebrows.
Charlotte put on a serious face for a split second, looked at Annabeth in the eye and said: "Apple."
Annabeth choked back laughter, and a squeal. "Leo, do you understand what the issue is?" she asked, biting her bottom lip, concealing her laughter. "Apples? What's up with apples?" Frank asked. Percy had covered his face with his hands, recalling something from before.
I furrowed my eyebrows. I stood up from the table and walked out, worried of where this was headed.
I heard the door close behind me, and arms wrapped around me. "I don't wanna talk about it..." I pouted.
"Why?" she giggled. "Because.." I looked down.
"Leo Valdez, boy of smart answers," she chuckled.
"Did you find out what it meant?" she asked, moving to the front of me. "Yes..." I muttered. "Did you hear my response?" she asked again.
Oh, nothing! But... yes I will.
I smiled at her. "I have loved the thought of you being by my side since the day I met you," she blushed, looking away nervously. I smiled and put my finger under her chin, turning it towards me.
I leaned forward and kissed her. She kissed back, her hands reaching for my hair. I picked her up.
We pulled back, gasping for air.
"I love you, Jackson."
"I love you too, Repair Boy."
"Not even using my proper last name? How rude."
