The hours had ticked by while Marina sat in her car.
She had never felt so confused and lost in her life. It's as if her world was turned upside down and everything she had worked hard for , had boiled down to nothing.
Suddenly she sat up.
Isabella had finally emerged from the hotel, walking hurriedly, a bag slung over her shoulder. The hood of her sweatshirt was pulled low over her forehead. Marina guessed that it was an attempt at keeping off the chill.
A shadow emerged from below the gigantic, magnolia tree, which shaded the front of the hotel.
Straining her neck, Marina saw the person walking swiftly towards Isabella. Thinking it to be an attempt on Isabella, Marina made to jump out of her vehicle, but froze in her tracks. Surprisingly, Isabella had turned to greet the person, who turned out to be a male.
He was dressed similarly to Isabella. "What is going on?" Isabella muttered.
Slinking low in her seat, until eye level with the dashboard, Marina peered at them.
They seemed to be in earnest conversation. A few minutes after, Isabella reached into her hand bag and took out an envelope.
After giving it to the young man, who was visible, at that point, Isabella got into her vehicle and drove away.
The young man, who was dressed in a porter's uniform, turned and proceeded into the hotel.
Guessing that it was probably a large tip, Marina sat up and turned the key in the ignition.
The engine purred to life.
After seeing Isabella, leave the hotel alone, Marina felt a pang of guilt. Isabella had been alone all afternoon and not involved in any secret rendezvous, Marina thought to herself. Although Isabella seemed to be more obsessed with carrying The Hartland's name, than actually being at her husband's side, there wasn't any probable cause for suspicions.
Well except for the night at the restaurant. Isabella's affiliation with Tommy still left some unanswered questions. Still she seemed to be okay.Sara had kept hinting at the possibility of Isabella having an affair. Marina had scoffed at that thought. Contemplating, Marina finally decided that she would ease up on Isabella a bit.
Exiting the car park, Marina glanced at her slim fingers which were gripping the steering wheel.
Tears sprung to her eyes when she focused on the wedding band.
Marina thought of her husband, fiercely passionate and full of strength.
Moving her hand from the steering wheel, to swipe at the tears, Marina halted in mid motion.
"Lieutenant Cassio has not returned Geraldo's posessions." She reminded herself.
Amongst them were his gold watch which she had given him, as a wedding present and his wedding band. Making a mental note to telephone him the next morning, Marina continued to drive somewhat slowly, in the direction of her home.
No one saw the rental SUV, leaving the hotel's car park, hot on her heels.
