I'm about to scream out loud

Luckily I have it still

But

Okay, Sakura... Take a deep breath and ignore it...

Just ignore this chapter guys...

~■♡■~

You pulled the lever in front of you and chose Teruteru's name, voting on the cook. The machine began calculating, then showed the word 'GUILTY' and confetti came out from it - meaning your vote was right.
"Correct!" Monokuma cheered, dancing around like a mini balerina. "That's right! This time, the blackened responsible for killing Byakuya Togami is Teruteru Hanamura!"
"N-No... nonononono...!" the cook cried out in panick.
"A-Are you serious...!?" Fuyuhiko gritted his teeth. "I mean I already knew but... Seriously, a ponce like him is the one who killed Togami!?"
"B-But..." Catmaru looked at the ground. "WHYYYY!? WHY DID YOU KILL HIM!?" he screamed, a waterfall of tears escaping his eyes.
"I-It was a mistake... I'm telling you it was just a mistake..." he mumbled with teary eyes. "I... was only trying to save you guys... I was only trying to stop Nagito from murdering one of you!"
"Huh?" you tilted your head and made a confused face.
'That's not what he said in that voice clip...'
"'Trying to stop'... What do you mean?" Hajime asked, with a just as confused face on.
Nagito opened his mouth, then closed it and stayed silent.
"I spent all morning in the old building preparing the dishes for the party... a-and then..." Teruteru started, gulping. "I heard a weird laughter near the dining hall... and when I peeked over there... I saw him. I saw Nagito, in the middle of cleaning duty, putting the knife under the table...! I-I had a bad feeling about it... so I continued to watch what he was doing... And I saw him place the irons he brought in the storage room... and mess with the air conditioner timers... Plus, he was grinning... Just grinning by himself the whole time... S-So... I questioned him... W-When that happened... he...!"
"No need." you interrupted him. "Fuyuhiko, can you please...?"
The yakuza just bluntly nodded, and once again pressed the 'play' button on the recordist.
""... Oh, I've been caught?"
"B-Been caught...?"
"What are you doing? What are you scheming!?"
"... I'm planning to kill someone, of course."
"Huh?"
"Teruteru... Just so you know, it's pointless of you to stop me. If you stop me now, it doesn't matter. I will never give up. Whether it's tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, or the days beyond that... I'll definitely start the killing."
"Wh-What? No matter how much you want to leave this island, that's just...!"
"I see... So that's what you think... But, that's not it at all. This isn't about my survival. I just... Want the killing to start."
"W-What are you saying...?"
"I love everyone here, escepially a certain someone. I want to be a good use to her... And them. I love all of the Ultimates... And I admire them for being symbols of hope. That's right... In the name of hope, I love everyone's talents from the bottom of my heart. That's why... I don't want them to lose aganist something like killing. I want them to prove to me that hope will never lose, no matter how daunting the despair they face may seem. I want everyone to prove to me that hope will never lose aganist despair!"
"W-What are you saying...? I don't understand at all!"
"See, isn't it typical that if you face a strong enemy, you will become even stronger yourself...? Which means... The stronger the despair you face, the stronger everyone's hope will become, right? I... Want to see that brightness. And in order to see it, I'm going to become everybody's stepping stone. I want to make your hopes shine... It's as simple as that... That's right, I yearn for a powerful hope that can overcome any kind of despair!"
"A-Are you kidding...? Don't tell me... You're actually serious...?"
"So you don't understand... That's fine... I don't really mind... I'm just an obsessed fanboy so it's all right that this love of mine is unrequited. I suppose... I can be called the Ultimate Ultimate Fanatic!""
You started to get curious, because you weren't paying attention to the conversation from this point.
""Y-You... There's something wrong with you!"
"Really? Do you really think so? Do you really think... There's something wrong with me? But... isn't that what love is?""
With that, the voice clip ended.
'Well looks like we didn't miss much.'
"N-Nagito... What is the meaning of this?" Hajime looked at the luckster. "E-Explain it to me! I don't understand... anything about this story at all!"
"You see, if you have a favorite boxer, don't you want him to fight aganist a stronger opponent and win?" he asked with a half-hearted smile. (Was I the only one who thought he was talking about his underpants when he said "if you have a favorite boxer"...? Am I the only idiot like that?)
"You better not compare us to that." Fuyuhiko hissed.
"Huh? Am I wrong?" Nagito tilted his head. "It's a given that trials are necesarry to become strong, and the harsher the trial, the stronger you become, no? For mere humans, killings are simply a tragedy, but... for worthy humans, a trial such as this can elevate their status to an even higher level. It's amazing to me that someone as untalented as myself can become that trial! There's no point in someone like me surviving... It's far more significant for me to die as everyone's trial. There's no greater honor than becoming the foundation so that your values may ascend to brave new heights--"
*WHAM!*
Nagito fell to the ground with an 'oof'. You gritted your teeth and placed your hand on the fist you just used to punch him in the face.
"Just... stop it already." you hissed. "Don't you see that you're hurting everyone? Is that what you call hope?"
"Y-Yeah... I just don't understand!" Mahiru cried out. "Are you saying you basically wanted to commit murder for fun!?"
Nagito groaned, and slowly got up from the ground, rubbing his nose in pain. "Nice punch, as excepted from the Ultimate Assassin." he commented, then turned to Mahiru. "It's not the same as someone killing for fun, but... I guess it'd look the same in your eyes. I have no intention of surviving and leaving you all to die."
"Is that why... you didn't mind when Teruteru discovered your plan?" Hajime sweatdropped.
"Or perhaps that was intentional too?" Chiaki asked sharply.
"... Huh?" Teruteru gasped.
"Nagito wanted to involve us in the killing... Plus, it'd be better for him if the mystery was more complex..." she explained. "Is that why you blatantly revealed your plan to Teruteru? You expected to pique Teruteru's curiosity... And you looked forward to the mystery becoming more complex."
"Well... you're basically right. It's true I was looking forward to that." Nagito nodded with a smile. "That's why I took the time to tell him about the secret passage I found while I was cleaning..."
"That was your doing too?" Gundham widened his eyes.
"I just casually mentioned it: 'Oh, it's dangerous if you fall, so don't get too close to it.'" he shrugged.
"U-Ugghhhh..." Teruteru groaned. He blindly fell in his trap.
"This dude... He's seriously batshit crazy! He's insane!" Kazuichi cried out, with a little fear in his voice.
"T-That's right! That's why I tried to stop him, you know!" the cook quickly nodded, sweating like crazy.
"But why... why did you kill Byakuya instead?" Sonia muttered sadly.
"I-I don't know!" he cried out desperately. "Because... Nagito was the one who was supposed to take that knife... T-That's why... I aimed and thrusted the iron skewer there... But why is Byakuya the one who died!? It was supposed to be Nagito, not him!"
"Byakuya... probably tried to stop Nagito from grabbing the knife..." Hajime muttered. "And then... in place of Nagito..."
"... No, I don't think that's it." Chiaki suddenly cutted him off.
"...Huh?"
"Byakuya was probably trying... to protect Nagito." she stated confidently.
"W-What did you say!?" Catmaru yelled with wide eyes.
"Cuz... Byakuya said so, didn't he?"
Flashback(author: whoops. *scribbles something* Looks like I skipped that conversation too. Anyway, with magic, I'll give it to ya! Bibidi-bobidi-boo!)
"Don't worry, as long as I'm the leader, I won't let anyone become a victim." Byakuya said with a detirmened look on his face. "I will guide you all! That much, I promise."
Flashback ends
"C-Could it be...? In order to keep that promise...?" Mikan muttered silently as a tear escaped her eye, rolling down on her cheek.
"As long as he was wearing the night-vision goggles... I'm sure he saw someone moving under the floorboards." the gamer explained sleepily. "And that someone... was aiming for Nagito."
"S-So Byakuya gave his life to protect Nagito? Even though he was trying to take the knife?" Mahiru sweatdropped with wide eyes.
"I see... Byakuya is amazing..." Nagito smiled, still rubbing his punched nose. "To keep his promise to protect everyone, he actually threw his own life away... And yet... " his eyes grew suddenly darker, "I never expected an ending like this... Such despair..."
"Wha-!?" Hajime jumped.
"But... we shouldn't let him die in vain." he continued, finally releasing his - now growing quite purple - nose and hugging himself. "I'm sure everyone will become even stronger by overcoming this despair..."
"Could it be...? You knew Byakuya would protect you, so you set him up to fail?" Peko narrowed her crimson eyes.
'Okay, not to be rude, but that's just stupid.'
~Why you gotta be so ruuuude?~
'...'
~Don't you know I'm human toooo~?~
'... No you're not.'
~.... Ah! Oh-Uhm- Ignore me.~
'It's quite hard if you are in my freaking head.'
~True. Then I will just shut up.~
'Thank you.'
"... Of course not. I'm not that good at calculating." Nagito gave a half-hearted smile. "I just took some precautionary measures. The results of that were going to be my fun for later... Just kidding. But I never expected it would turn out like this. I never thought I'd be the one to survive. But since it was my life that had been saved, I didn't want to just waste it... So that's why I decided to help Teruteru."
'He is just completely gross. How can someone... change so much in a matter of seconds? I don't understand.'
"Why... Why...?" Hajime muttered silently and sadly.
"Well, because... Teruteru decided to commit his crime because he also had strong hope, right?" he smiled. "Which means his actions were motivated by hope... If he was willing to go that far, I thought he might truly be the person whose existence I was waiting for. I thought he might be the hope that could defeat any type of despair. In order for me to confirm it, I decided to help Teruteru!"
"W-What do you mean, 'confirm'!? Just stop it already!" the brunette ahoge-boy cried out desperately.
"Plus... I couldn't really help myself when I also empathized with Teruteru..." he sighed. "After all, he wanted to kill me but he ended up killing Byakuya instead, you know? If I left him in that confused state, this trial might have been ruined, right? But in order for our hope to grow, this trial was absolutely necessary. That's why... I decided to help him! I told him, 'I don't care if I die, so you should just focus on escaping this island'... Those were my exact words to him before the investigation... Isn't that right, Teruteru?"
"Ugh... ughhh... ughhh..." Terureru groaned in frustration.
"In the end, my help just wasn't enough, and this turned out to be a bad ending for Teruteru..." he made a small - and pretty fake - pout, then turned it back to his crazy smile. "But you should be proud of yourself. You will not die in vain! You will become a splendid sacrifice for everyone else so their hopes can grow even more powerful!"
"S-Sacrifice...!?" the cook widened his small eyes.
"S-Seriously, stop it already! I'm gonna go crazy just listening to you!" Kazuichi cried out, gritting his shark-like teeth.
"Hey, is it really okay for us to just leave this crazy bastard alone like this?" Fuyuhiko asked, sweatdropping. "Isn't it better if we just fucking kill him off!?"
'I think he will seriously murder Nagito one day. That bastard can't be lucky forever... Or can he?'
~No one will ever know... Oh wait. Maybe I wi--~
'Shut up, I'm trying to concentrate.'
You shook your head and sighed. This voice really started to piss you off, but what was the most annoying that you were unsure about what was it and where did it come from. Maybe you were really going crazy?
'Ugh, [F/N], concentrate!' you mentally yelled at yourself, but then Monokuma's high pitched voice could be heard and you were already getting a headache.
"Kyaaaah! 'Kill', he said! High school students are soooo violent these days!" he laughed, spinning around like a child.
'You were the one who forced us to kill... Although I was killing before that too... Ugh.'
You groaned slightly to yourself, then the bear spoke up again.
"But the person who's gonna get killed now isn't Nagito. It's Teruteru."
"...Eek!?" the cook let out a not-so-manly squeak, his eyes growing wider.
"Puhuhu, you didn't forget, right?" he giggled in his own stupid way, placing a paw in front of his mouth. "Cuz I told you already at the beginning, right? If the blackened killer loses... a fun punishment awaits them."
"H-Hold on..." Teruteru yelped weakly. "T-That was... how should I put it... an accident... Uhm... an act of self-defense... Uh... not intentional... Anyway... I feel it's possible it's not my fault..."
"It doesn't matter if it's an accident, self-defense, or intentional, a murder is still a murder! If you kill someone, that's murder!" Monokuma yelled at him, and you couldn't help but agree with that. No matter why he did it, he did it. End of story.
"B-But... Isn't there anything like sympathy judgments, extenuating circumstances... or maybe even probation...?" he asked, playing with his fingers and sweating hardly.
"I don't accept any of those claims!" the bear shook his head.
"T-That's not..." he muttered, as fat drop of tears started to espace his small eyes. "H-Hey! Save me you guys! I was only trying to stop Nagito... so...!"
"... Were you really?" you muttered with closed eyes.
"... Huh?"
"In that voice clip, you said..." you looked at Fuyuhiko, who sighed and played the voice clip again.
"D-Don't worry, momma... It will be all okay... When I killed him, and got out... I will return home... It will be all right... As long as my name is Teruteru Hanamura..."
"I don't hear any sign of you trying to stop Nagito in that." you said sharply.
"Be honest... After learning about Nagito's plan, you saw an opportunity, right?" Monokuma grinned. "You probably thought nobody would find out if you killed him after messing up his plan, right...? That's what you thought, right?"
"Y-You're wrong! I--!"
"There's no way a person who has no malice... would kill someone like that." the bear cutted him off.
"... Ugh!" Teruteru groaned out, fresh tears rolling down on his cheeks.
"In truth, you were just desperate to kill Nagito... and willing to sacrifice everybody else to survive, right?" he continued, grinning evilly even more. "Just be honest already... at least, in the end."
"Ugh, ughh, ughh, ughh..." he held his head in his hands, trembling violently. "WAAAAAH!" he cried and cried, falling into despair more and more.
"T-Teruteru...!" Sonia gasped with a terrified and worried look on her face.
"If only you didn't try to kill Nagito... Byakuya would still be alive..." Mahiru clentched her fists and glared at the cook, who was now on his knees, crying hard. She ran there, grabbed his collar and pulled him up, screaming at him, full of anger. "Why did you try to commit murder!? Answer me, Teruteru!"
"U... Ugh..." he sobbed, trying to catch his breath. "I... I just... I just wanted to go home... I needed to go back home no matter whaaaat!" he yelled, pushing Mahiru back. He was sitting on the ground, looking down with empty eyes. "Because... she's waiting for me. Momma... is waiting for me at home. She's waiting all by herself... for the day I graduate Hope's Peak Academy and come home."
Flashback
"Okay, I'm going now!" a slightly younger Teruteru shouted, letting know the woman who was cooking in the kitchen that he is leaving - his mother. "When I come back, I think we should talk again about opening an Aoyama and Azabu location!"
"Oh my, you're still talking about that..." the woman chuckled. She looked kind of strange. She was sweating hardly, and she was quite pale.
"I'm serious. The academy guarantees success for it's graduates, right?" he smiled bittersweetly. "So, I know it's gonna be difficult by yourself, but... wait for me until then, okay?"
"Yes, you're right..." she nodded. "Then I'll just have to do my best to keep the Hanamura Diner from going out of business until then..."
"Mom, you don't have to work so hard! What if you collapse again while I'm gone!?" Teruteru yelled at her with an awfully worried look on his face.
"... I'll be fine. Moms are strong." she smiled sweetly, turning the food in the frying pan she was holding. "I won't lose to some illness... Haha... I know that already..."
Teruteru pressed his lips together, looking at his mother's back with a sad look. "I-I know that... already..."
Flashback ends
"I... promised..." Teruteru whispered weakly. "I promised her I'd become a full-fledged cook and save the Hanamura Diner. Momma... is waiting for me to keep that promise. Even though she's sick... and alone... she's still waiting for me."
Then he jumped up from the ground and looked at everyone with a panicked face. "That's why I need to go home!"
'... I... never knew that. His mom is sick? And... God. Of course, everyone has their own reasons. How could I forget that...?'
"T-Teruteru...!" Sonia cried, putting her hand in front of her mouth and sobbing.
"B-But... if we were told that our memories were stolen... and that several years have passed since our first day..." he mumbled with wide eyes. "Then what happened to the Hanamura Diner!? What happened to my mom who's still waiting for me!?"
"So you did believe what Monokuma said..." Peko gritted her teeth.
"You were saying all along... 'It's okay... I'll never believe something like this...'" Kazuichi muttered as he fought with his angry tears too.
"So... WHY!?"
"I-I still don't believe it!" he cried. "There's no way I can believe it... It... it has to be a lie... That's why I wanted to go home! I wanted to... go home and confirm it... I wanted to make sure... it was all just a lie... I wanted to make sure that I still have a place to call home!"
"Gh...! Teruteru... you...!" Catmaru clentched his fists, closing his eyes in frustration.
"I don't believe it... I... don't... believe... it..." Teruteru mumbled with wide eyes like he completely went insane.
'... He... believed it. He tried to deny it... But he believed it... Damn it...'
"I-I... wanted to confirm by any means necessary... I had to do something..." he said. "... That's when I heard Nagito's plan. I-I found out he was going to kill someone if I left him alone... That's why... That's... why..."
"Sooooo you wanted the first kill?" Monokuma cutted in, with a huge evil grin on his face.
"..." he bit his lips, looking down. "I'm sorry... you guys... It doesn't mean I wanted to sacrifice any of you. But... it was the only thing I could do... And... I ended up killing Byakuya... instead of Nagito... Ah... I see..." he made a small, hopeless smile. "I think I'm the one... who went crazy."
"T-Teruteru..." Hajime muttered sadly.
"I see, I see... interesting." that goddamned bear laughed, but then, if it's even possible for him, he pouted and had a gloomy arua around himself. "But... As far as motives to kill are concerned, wanting to see your mom is booooooooooring."
"Wha-!?" Hajime gasped, and you widened your eyes slightly, too.
'That bear- He is just cruel! Too cruel!'
"Soooo..." he grinned, ignoring the stares he got for the comment. "It seems there's no point in basking in the afterglow, so let's hurry up and begin the punishment!"
"N-No! You can't!" Monomi cried out, as she started to move back and forth while she was hanging, trying to get herself in front of the bear. He groaned in annoyence and punched her with some kinda super-paw, making the rope that was holding her body rip and she flew all the way to the other end of the trial room with a horrible cry in pain.
"Geez! Get outta my way!" he yelled at her, then clapped his paws together, cleaning them from dust. "There... now that the annoying little sister has been dealt with, let's get back to business..."
"H-Hold on a sec..." Teruteru said with a sniff. "I'm not asking... for forgiveness anymore... B-But... at least..."
"I've prepared a special punishment for Teruteru Hanamura, the Ultimate Cook!" he continued spinning around, completely ignoring him.
"P-Please... Please tell me at least... What happened to the Hanamura Diner... to Momma?"
"Let's give it everything we've got! It's... PUNISHMENT TIIIIME!"
"L-Lies... I won't believe this..." he shook his head while crying silently. "I... won't... believe... it...!"
Then, he screamed at the top of his lungs, crying out loud again...
"..... MOOOMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!"
And then...
It began.
Monokuma jumped back on his throne, which had suddenly a huge red button in front of it. He took out a hammer from nowhere, and with a big wave of his arm, he pressed it aganist the button. Then, a screen came to life on the side of it, revealing a chibi Teruteru in the middle of the screen, a chibi Monokuma soon joining him and dragging him away, with the subtitle:
